Wingzee - worrying issue indeed. Try check youtube for the videos, some ppl did record it.

Min - No receipt bro. SA said they wont print if claim warranty. Just showed me the items on his pc screen. Noticed a whole bunch of gaskets, screw sets and rings replaced. The items were not tht expensive, 1 chain guide was abt rm350, most of the stuff was around rm100 over. The big chunk came from labour charges - rm5k!

Thanks for sharing BadBoyz3!
For us to pay RM5k + for their own design mistake is very unfair.
If BMW is going to be cheap about it, then they should only charge the parts and absorb the labour cost.

The timing chain issue has been known for quiet sometime.
It is also as a matter of luck. But I am still lucky not to have the issue.
Even after 223,000km of mileage for my dec 2009 320D.
I think I got the highest mileage on 320D model in Malaysia.
Insya allah.

IMHO, during adverse condition (i.e. hard driving and start-stop traffic), the engine suffer a lot of stress. Hence, I don't think the lub oil can last thru the 15,000km service interval.
I notice recently after 7-9k, the oil level drop significantly (but not below the lowest level). So need to pay for the in-between service to ensure the turbo engine is well protected. By the way, finally I got my belt / tensioner pulley changed under warranty after the cicak sound is so clearly heard.

2 simple, non-scientific, yet very convincing indicators for me to change oil every 7.5k kms; first is the very filthy oil that goes out even after that short interval. Next is the noticeable smoothness of the engine with new oil; meaning that only after 7.5k kms, oil has degraded substantially.

Completely agree with you on this, when I did my own interval oil change outside after 8000km, the engine oil which was drained out was completely pitch black!

Absolutely small price to ensure engine runs smoothly

quick question guys..
what's the normal operating water temperature on the 320d ?

noticed that its always at 100C which is middle of the water temp gauge. Normal ?

Is there an original temp gauge on the E90 320d?

yep, interval service at own cost for me too...
agree with bro Mizhan, really can feel difference in engine smoothness even after oil change before 8k km :top:

My water temperature is 89 degrees Celsius...I can see it on my BMW Performance G Force steering wheel.

Recently a bunch of us 2009/10 320d cars had to change our batteries.

Mine is averaging around 93 degrees Celsius for trotting around the city and suburbs here in PJ. Got my data straight from the OBD2 port on my Ultragauge

Recently flush my ATF again with Original BMW ATF bought at BMW dealer.
RM712 spent with 6 Litters. However when drained the OEM oil only refilled up 3.7L
Will flush it again at 70,000 km

OEM feel light, but Original BMW ATF oil feel smoother.
