to be exact... "still" installing ... lol
the car's still at quill.... thought i would get it back before im travelling to jb next monday, but too bad.... have to use their 320i (not that im complaining, nice gesture of them to provide me a courtesy car) .... gonna burn a hole in my wallet cause its petrol .. hahah ... but so bored with the car now .... miss the black fuelled car... haha

The petrol cars drink petrol like a fish drinks water and no kick......I hope more drivers embrace the diesel 'miracle'!

I dont think my 530i with 231 bhp and 300nm has 'no kick' doc :4:

Although it definitely drinks petrol if compared to your diesels...

Yup everyone has its own preference and style. Each bmw model has its own pro & cons, strenght & weakness. Overall BMW is different kind of machine compare to other makes.
Having tested the 320d, VW Gti & Audi A4 B8 on highway doesn't makes me excited as in line six as to date is still legendery BMW engine. 320d has more advantage being 50 50 weight distribution. Yup turbocharged car has more torque especially at low end rpm. Fun drive in city and low to mid speed due the acceleration. But I prefer high displacement engine car on high speed and highway cruising. I believe diesel engine is more durable but will cost more in repairs and parts. Almost bought the 530d but after checking the parts in SG, decided to go for petrol engine.

Hi innitialM, Can you tell us which part is more expensive and by how much? thanks

I thought it should be more expensive than a similar cc. petrol car?

Diesel and petrol roadtax is same these days, they revised it a while ago.

Sorry I cant recall but they even dun keep much stock (parts) for diesel engine.
Diesel engine should be more reliable and tougher but when it kaput it will cost more.
Its your money and you must follow whats your heart and pocket allowed.
Only that I'm still prefer in line six:wink:

BMW Malaysia sent out an official price for it at RM 6,800, i myself have received it about 2 weeks ago, but have already ordered it some time back. There is a slight difference in price then, but im sure quill would be able to sort it out for me in time. :)

Just sent mine for last free service at 52k to AB. So far no complaints. Great fuel economy and lots of fun driving it.
Going back to Penang used to have to fill the tank. Now can go to Penang, do my rounds and come back to KL on one tank.

A bit concerned as every BMW car workshop owner I know says its gonna be expensive to maintain after the free service periods. Lets see after this.

we're looking forward to your after warranty period service and maintenance though bro azmany72. do u plan to service it outside or continue with the authorized SC?

Thanks for sharing bro. Saw the episode on 5th gear recently. For those who have missed it, heres what it looks & feels like compared to our rides.

Unfortunately most of the amazing new diesel engines out there including the twin turbo used in the 123d/X1 23d or the twin turbo 335d and the nice new Merc E220 CDI require Euro 5 diesel so they can't be used here. The single turbo 2.0l and 3.0l diesels are fun but until we get Euro 5 spec fuels (or maybe just Euro 4? I dunno) then we're stuck with what we have...

From the limited knowledge that i have, the 123d engine is the same N47 engine that is installed on our 320d, but with different ECU setup and bi-turbo installed. Perhaps it could run on our Euro2M without problem... :p

Talking about our fuel spec, during the last Quill Sepang drive, i was told that our local assembled 320d have been tuned to suit Euro2M, not just the removal of the DPF.

One of the tuning is to reduce the fuel pressure in the commonrail. With that done, BMW Malaysia provides the same warranty for its fleet. Unlike the imported 320d, where it is made to suit the Euro5 diesel.

Anyone with knowledge can verify this info ?

just for kicks gonna send it in to authorized sc first after this and see how much it costs. then plan to send it outside after that just to compare.
but before this was sending my ole faithful 325 to setia auto in subang jaya. no complaints about their service. haven't asked them whether they can do the 320d though yet.
supposedly not many workshops can maintain the d engine properly as they may not have one key equipment. dunno lah thats what the workshop owners tell me.

I have also heard that the local 320d engine has been tuned to suite our fuel. But what i cant understand is why the hp, torque and fc is the same as the uk spec one as our local bmw brochure. if engine tuned , surely there must be some diffrence. So either our local spec brochure is not correct or our engine is not tuned.

how about dpf (diesel) = catalytic converter (petrol)
maybe some ecu mapping needed to provide correct reading for car without dpf.
there's a sensor connect back to ecu which control the engine that produces emmision (oxygen sensor i think) for catalytic converter.
it may have similar purpose for dpf, err.. i think dpf can't filter out euro2 diesel to provide expected ecu reading from the sensor, that's why it's removed.

i tend to agree with supersonic, it's not tuned, but may be modified to remove sensor reading from dpf and avoid error code.
one reason tuner modified ecu setting to provide more power to the engine and trade off for higher emmision output.

From what I understand nothing was changed in the engine or ECU, only the DPF was removed which doesn't really change much in terms of power/torque/FC figures. The BMW N47 is designed for Euro 2 use, our Euro 2M fuel meets most of the Euro 3 standards already so it's all within specs which explains the hp/Nm/mpg figures.

I think you have one more free service at 60 kkm. This will be the last one on BSRI.
