Hi AllI'm getting the 320d msport with m sport passive suspension setup, am considering upgrading to 19" rims. Can anyone share any feedback/experience running on 19" (from 18") with our Malaysian roads (I drive around klang valley), how much difference it made on the ride? I'm willing to sacrifice some comfort for good looks and handling but I do drive a lot and don't want to end up with a bone-jarring ride (or pothole damaged rims) :)appreciate any experience shared

19in set up of course it's going to be hard since u r using 30 to 35 series tire. It's more alloy n less rubber. Tire wall is thin n tire pressure is high so as not to dent the rim over bad roads in kl

With wider tires dry grip is awesome since the car on rails n it looks nice on bigger rims. Of course downside is bent rim ie less money for the missus to spend....

Stick to 18in rims with stagger configuration. It helps the rear to stay planted on fast cornering bends

Several F30s in Klang Valley are on 19" or 20" since last year. So far none has had bent wheels.

You just can't drive straight.. always drive defensively to avoid potholes.. which is not that different than if u r on 18"s.. :)

thanks for the feedback :) I hear a lot of advice about dents and bumpy rides (hence i have the perception) but I really want to hear experience from sifus who have done it. Btw how much has the right changed with your 20's?

would appreciate anyone else who has 19/20" rims

"Bumpy ride" or harshness is quite subjective bro. So u really hav gotta take a taxi ride to feel if its too bumpy or otherwise. Whats bumpy for some may still be too cushy for others.

Moving from 18" to 20", the change in driving comfort was minimal to me.

Does the firmer lower profile tyres improve handling? Not too sure about that bro. Altho conventional wisdom say firmer ride improves handling, it doesn't make the car go faster around a racetrack.. as recently proven by Topgear when testing the Golf GTI Mk7. So it can be more of a feel thing.. which however can affect the driver's confidence. Unlike the Stig, we may need the confidence boost! :)

Enjoy the nice problem & happy hunting!

Thanks for the feedback, I think i'm going to go 19", i feel like it suits the msport best :)

I'm now having the hard choice of deciding on rims. Actually i always still liked the sports line 397 rims but i'd prefer to maintain a staggered setup (and they're only 18").

_M_ maybe you can share a photo your ride :)?

You would not want 19" after seeing M's car

19" goes on 40 series (front) and 35 series on the rear. It is not as catastrophic as you make it sound, any rims and any tyres will be damaged if you hit a big enough pot hole. Get forged rims if you're afraid of getting your rims damaged easily.

Riding on 19" BBS CH-R rims, love the size, a little bumpy coming from 17" rims but please, AVOID the potholes. Afterwards like me, bengkok all 4 rims :(

personally, i think the biggest tradeoff between 18 and 19 inch are the better fuel consumption/ more power wise vs looks/cornering. 18 scores positively in the former, but 19 gives you the looks and extra stability needed in corner.
