Of course they do, but they wouldn't tell me such things nor would I, as a friend, ask! But I do know that some big syndicates have been broken lately and the economic downturn has depressed demand in the destination countries too. It's a cross-border thing...

A cheaper and safer alternative is pepper spray that you can get from any good hardware shop or even pharmacy. I have at least ten sprays in various cars and spots in the house.

lets all put the blames on the expensive car prices on bolehland...., makes us the target for carjackers. otherwise every 5-6 out of10 household can afford to own any of "luxurious" car that makes it a norm.

i dont mind keeping a taser in my glove compartment. Where can i mail order it? :)

Tasers are illegal. You'd have to source for one outside of the country. Mine were purchased when I lived abroad though I have heard that certain night market vendors surreptitiously stock a few units.

A word of caution: You'd have to source for the sort that come with a special strap that can be tied snugly around your wrist. The other end of the strap, acts as a circuit breaker i.e: if the unit is pried out of your hands and detaches itself from the strap around your wrist , it cannot be activated(and used on you instead!).

Bro, that's not exactly the reason. Our stolen cars are not fenced here, they're exported immediately. Stolen cars from other countries end up here. The fencing operation is like money laundering, so choose your used and recond car dealers carefully.

Tasers are illegal.

Glad you know that, Ennui. Exactly why I said it's cheaper and safer to use pepper spray. No point saving your car/belongings and getting arrested for using an illegal and concealed weapon. Safer also because you can teach wife and kids to use pepper spray. Using a taser requires close-quarters fighting abilities.

if they want to hijack...just give the keys to them. no point to risk yr life.

anyway to all..pls be extra extra careful as i heard of many hijack cases recently n especially in our hypermarkets. golf bag also mau!!

.

Its exactly this mentality of our police force that is not helping the public to help themselves. Information is to be shared, no dinosaur age reasoning of official secrets act or whatever. Knowledge is Power bro.

Is it car hijackings (which render our hitech alarms useless) or stealing? i believe the answer in making our public areas safer is for the buildings management to bear more responsibility for security. Right now, if u get mugged or even murdered in a shopping mall car park, they are blameless and get away scot-free. Blame this on the laws of this country. Consumer protection is so very weak, its laughable.

See pg N23 of today's Star. Customs discovered two 40ft containers crammed with Toyotas destined for a foreign country. That's the way it's done: the car thieves are just runners in the long chain of an international ring. They get their model orders, and hunt their stock accordingly. Their preference would be to steal rather than hijack, as hijacking is also high risk for them.

As I said, unfortunately, the hunting method for high-end cars with security features and GPS tracking is hijacking, and you'll be very fortunate to just hand the keys to them and let them take your car. Usually you'll be taken for a ride, stripped of your handphone and probably your clothes, and left in a lonely place like a plantation. By the time you get something to cover yourself, and a phone to call the police or your tracking company, your car will already be in a steel shipping container, untrackable.

Toyotas rate the highest demand, followed by Hondas. Fortunately Mercs rank higher than BMWs. As I said, there is a lull at the moment because the global used car market has completely collapsed. Nevertheless, it pays to always be watchful and to have some means of last resort defence in case your womenfolk are involved. Pepper spray is actually a flight aid rather than a fight aid like batons and tasers, and that's why it's safer.

Jazzler - did you solve your problem at IA? I have the same model as you and am having similar problem.

i leave a pepper spray in wife car's driver door compartment. i doubt she will remember to use it when something unforseen happened.

looks like i need to get a few more bottles, 1 in my pocket, a few more in the house at different location.

are the sprays kidproof? i hate to think what would happen if the kids get curious.

Remember to remove it from the car if you are driving into Singapore. Pepper spray is illegal in Singapore and carry the same sentence as carrying a WEAPON...

The essence of self-defence is to run rather than fight, but run with a head start. Test-firing and training is important: my daughter hangs one on a lanyard when she walks the dog. Yes, they're child-proof but in any case, no permanent harm happens to anyone who get's sprayed.

Also don't carry one on a plane or you might be thrown off. :)

one can then draw a conclusion from the above that in singapore we dont need peppersprays :)
Only in bolehland do we need peppersprays? i suppose there are uncivilised monsters here and not in singapore...

I changed only one, the driver's side

My door lock just kaput today and apparently need to refuel, however I can't open the fuel door as both key fob and internal central lock button not working. Stuck at the petrol station for more than an hour trying to figure out how to open. :14:

Hakeemi, you changed only 1 actuator and cost you RM700? Not all 4? Need to send mine for this also. :hmmmm:

Yes, open the boot, flip open the battery compartment on the right hand side, behind the tail lamp. There is a green color plastic tab [size of a 5 sen coin] to pull and unlock [not release] the fuel cap. Don't pull all the way, it will snap the plastic thingy. Just pull until u feel resistance. Remember u still need to push the fuel cap door to pop the cap open.

Looks like all u need is to replace a central lock system fuse and that will restore the it.

Yeah, I managed to find the green latch to open the fuel door. Anyway, went to mekatronic (near summit) today, straightaway the mechanic there knows the problem. He even changed the fuse for free...what a nice guy...let's hope this would not happen again, if not have to change the actuators.

Eventually I believe the actuator will fail on you. The blown fuse is one of the symptoms. Another symptom is the squeaking sound when the door is lock
