I'm re-posting this in a new thread to make it easier to follow with more info to come.Hi guys, Here's s'ting interesting for owners of the older models upto like E46 and E39 range, BMW ECU's upto 2003 had either a EPROM or a EEPROM. The E36/34 for sure came with the most commonly used EPROM of the past, the 32K, 27C256. One of these blank chips may just cost about rm10 at most and its not very difficult to find a programing device to read/write these chips. We must be very thankful to BMW to putting this chip on a removable IC socket, so no need of any expert soldering guys to yank the chip out. Then post 1996 models life isn't that easy as they came with a EEPROM 28F200 which is a 44pin surface mount PSOP which requires some soldering skill to remove and install and also a special programming adapter / tool to read and write to these.FYI most ECU's are unique unless they're off the same batch, each ECU is marked with a hardware and a software number, if you try installing a chip off one ECU into another with different HW or SW numbers in a worst case the car may not even start. That is why its always important to work of your car's original map if your planning to use the same ECU.Let me know how many of you would like to do this themselves, as I will continue time permitting. I must say my tuned maps are not going to be free but for sure a lot cheaper thou,RegardsZakie

Hi, Interesting thread :) I'm Joseph from Serbia (ex-Yugoslavia), found this post using google :)
Would you mind to share some information with me :)
I have e36, 320i, m50 engine, motronic 3.1.
as i found out it has 27C256 32k eeprom
now my car got some custom exhaust, etc, and wondering, maybe i should reprogram the eeprom, to fit to current enginge status, serbian fuel, etc.
i can make my own eeprom programmer electronics.
which programs should i try/buy/get to modify orginal rom?
is there some nice guide on what to try,etc ?
Thanks in advance,
joseph

If you send me a read of the stock EPROM stating all the mods done to the car and the fuel RON in your country that you use I could send a tuned file in return. It will be nice if you have access to a wide-band afr logger too.

can give me more details? ie your location, contact number and price

Hi, These days Im not in Malaysia hoping to be back in about a month or two but I can still guide you on the job provided you can find a person with soldering skill who's able to de-solder the chip off the DME (most electronic repair shops can do it) and a universal EEPROM programming tool for reading and writing the chip.

Let me know if you can find some assistance as I can give the necessary guidance with pics for removal etc.

For starters post some pics of the ECU , the Label and the inside circuit board.

Regards,

What I'm talking about is re-chipping/re-flashing the stock ECU, unichip is a piggy back system

so, i want to know, which one is better, the pros n con using piggy back n reflash

I really don't wanna go there in this thread as you may find a few threads debating in this forum itself. Some of the Pros are :

1. Its totally stealth and NO cutting n chopping of the car's wiring harness
2. The ECU cannot re-learn back to stock
3. Cost less than a piggy back system
4. All look up tables/maps of the ECU can be modified, this will depend on the tuners ability.
5. No Check Light Issues, Undetected by any scan tool.

Regards,

Bro,

1) What are your charges from E90 325i?
2) How many bhp do you guarantee?
3) Will it improve FC?

Cheers

Who dare to say 'guarantee' power gain after retune?

Saw it on "Upsolute" website. If they can advertise means as good as guarantee right? :)

For the E90/E60 my presents is needed, about 12 to 15hp gains can be got from the N/A motors. We usually get about 5 to 8% FE after the tune on easy driving.

All this info I have given is for the members who would like to do this themselves, I can also train a enthusiast who would like to help other members. A little bit of electronics and some hands on experience with auto's will be a minimum requirement. There will be some investment required for this operation and wont be just limited to BMW's but most cars made upto like year 2002.

Regards

i guess still useless for me coz im not in west malaysia.......
