The temp that's shown in the dash is the outside air temp, not the engine temp...unless I'm mistaken.
Nop. I am talking about a hidden menu. My outside temp can be 80-90degC.
Woow...that is so intersting...like unlocking a special code in a PS2 game. Will take a really close look at my tacho on the way home!! Thanks.Originally posted by xcell60@Jul 25 2005, 04:36 PM

Guys,
The hidden menu you are referring to is actually located at the tachmeter. Look directly above the 6000rpm (red zone). You will see about 8-9 graduations (tick marks) that will eventually decrease to 3 when the car is in ambient temperature ( my e60 shows this). So the rule of the thumb is the more tick marks you see, the colder your car is, and if you don't see any, then drive straight to AB!!!!!
The reason they did away with the temp gauge is because people brought their cars in over a slight increase away from the mid point. This BMW claims is normal. Hence to avoid the influx of panic stricken owners, they got rid of the temp gauge. This was told to me by a frontline service staff at AB glenmarie.
I had sent my car back to AB cos had some creaking sound coming from the doors when going over bumps and corners. Apparently it is the door rubber lining which was not good quality. So they changed it for me under warrenty. No problems since.
I took it over 210kmph once on the way to and back from PD. Wind noise is there but quite common and usually coming from the rear mirrors. My old RX300 was even louder!
At 5000km I got the oil and filter changed even though recommendation is 25,000km. Cost me around RM500 to do that. So now I have much more confidence in flooring the pedal to the metal!!
I got it changed at AB. After the service, they reset the computer and next service is in another 25,000km. All the travel information is stored in the ignition key and retrive with a reader at the service advisor's desk.Originally posted by xcell60@Jul 25 2005, 04:53 PM

John,
Where did you get the oil and filter changed?? If BMW recommends to change at 25000km, then they are using synthetic oil, which should last you at least 15000km.
The tick is indeed a good indicator. I have always taken it as a "soft" rev limiter. That's to say, never rev beyond the tickOriginally posted by xcell60@Jul 26 2005, 10:18 AM
Besides Stranger, Johnchen and myself, who else owns a E60?? Information like this is crucial for good maintenance of our cars. Thanks.
Stranger, how do we get to this "secret menu"?
Johnchen, did my "tick" explanation work on your E60 as well?
Cheers
This is a trick that existed I think for E39, E46 or even E36.Originally posted by xcell60@Jul 26 2005, 10:18 AM

John,
What's IAD? Where will it be held?
Cheers
I don't really notice it with my E60 but with my RX 300, yes pulls left all the time but managed to get that corrected after many tries.Originally posted by boydf@Jul 28 2005, 03:21 PM

Bro,
That's the short for our BWM Club's Inaugural Annual Dinner that'll be held this weekend at Pan Pac Glenmarie. It'll be an exciting event with hundreds of BMW cars there. You'll be there??
Cheers!

John,
Wanted to attend, even PMed one of the committee members for enquiries for payment and booking, but did not get a reply. So made alternative plans. Will be road testing my E60 to Singapore tomorrow. I think we share something common here....my in-laws are from Singapore.
Cheers
