Hey guys,Just wondering if anyone had experienced a similar problem or if not, would be good to know if they should be able to do this..Was just at Auto Bavaria Glenmarie earlier to see my car which i expect to be picking up sometime next week..So he was saying that i should get the tinting done with them for 2k..I know that i could do it outside for less plus i wanted a much darker shade but he was saying doing the tinting outside could void the warranty. If the window motor breaks down or such and the tinting was done outside, they wont cover it under warranty..He also mentioned that if i wanted to change the speakers, i should consider as it would void any warranty related to the i-drive or wiring systems as i had tampered with the wiring systems to install new speakers..Is this true or can they actually do this?Just wondering if anyone had experienced such a thing before? Thanks for all the feedback.. :)Regards,Kenny

Interesting isnt it on how different people interpret differently how the warranty works. Based on my experience in the auto trade, if you read the warranty terms & conditions in detail, most manufacturers will cover defects due to manufacturing and part problem. This does not cover wear & tear items. Effectively to void the warranty would be easy - even changing a non-original screw would be enough.

So to your question on fitting the window tints - I suppose if the company who sells you the vehicle and also sells you the tint fitted, then it would be fair that they take the responsibility (warranty) if anything related to the window/door system goes wrong. However if you do it outside then it would be your responsibility, but if things do go wrong & you want to claim from the seller/manufacturer; then it would be quite an issue. Provided of course that it can be proven that the problem occured is not related to the window tint you fitted. It can be tough.

On fitting aftermarket speakers is even more complicated as with modern high tech cars it can affect many other parts and can actually cause a lot of damage. In fact I have seen in some cases it became hazardous. I suggest you get the optional factory audio upgrade which is available from the manufacturer and you would be fully covered by warranty. Unless of course you want to take the risk of changing it outside - make sure the person fitting it is very competent technically about your car. Its fine if there are no problems but becomes a real nightmare if something goes wrong. So the buyer has to decide on this.

What does your terms of warranty say? That's the important thing. Not what the salesman says.

BMW also sells umbrellas and key chains. Ask him, whether putting a non-BMW umbrella in the car, or starting the car w keys attached to non-BMW key chains would void the warranty.

Oh, not forgetting, wearing a non-BMW T-shirt while driving or sitting in the car, since BMW also sells T-shirts.

This can go on and on. So, go back and read the warranty fine print.

Kenny,

I had the same experience at AB with my e60 525i. I wanted to upgrade my sound system but found there was none offered by AB. And they adviced against me messing with anything electrical so fixing better quality speakers is out of the question. At least for the next 2 years.

Do check if your car comes with the "Comfort glass" which is already a tint. My 525i has that as standard but was not on the e60 520i. The tint is as good as the v-cool. Makes a lot of difference having this tint in our weather. But it is a very light color tint. You can see the film if you wind down the window a little.

Cheers!

Wah, good that I read this thread abt warranty matters or else I wud hv gone ahead to upgrade the sound system. The original was way too low quality esp from the CD changer. I should get in touch with that salesman. Thanks for the info.
