Serious consideration: E60/E90?

Ashlynn, suggest that you go and test drive a Golf GTI before making decision. I think you would love it.

I think I'll head on to Audi @ Bangsar to test drive the A4 these 2 days... Will give you guys feedback then :)

After thinking it over, I'll most prob go for a Beemer than a Merc. I'm only 23 :lollypop: so driving a Merc C class is a bit too much isn't it??? Plus, I love power and speed. So, I feel glad that I know what I actually want now.

Ashlynn, power and speed is nothing without handling because roads are not all empty, wide and straight, not forgetting the many surprises Malaysian roads and other drivers offered.. :p .. and the ultimate key for good handling is a car with balanced weight chassis. A rear wheel drive car always handles better than a front wheel drive car, now u know why F1 cars are all rear wheel drive? definitely not a cut cost measure.. :p

U want power? then u need turbo. U want speed? any high CC car with variable timing engine and light weight chassis would do... but when it comes to maneuvering away from obstacles, taking corners, attacking chicane at high speed, good luck!

Unless u have superb car handling skill, then I suggest u get a car than handles well.. :D When test drive a car, don't just pedal to the metal, taking corners while pushing the throttle a bit and see how the car behaves.. this is after all a performance car you intend to get, not a highway cruiser.. have fun! :D

I'm not sure if you would like to drive a 5 or 7 series cos its a big car le...
For me, I m still struggling on my 3 series..
Since you are so young...I would go for the Golf GTI or 1 series is also ok. till today, after owning my car for slightly less than a year, i still get stares from ppl le....:(
In fact the golf is very trendy le.. that's the feedback I got n also planning to get that soon...

Does the promos in Ingress, Sapura & AB differ or the same? So far I only checked Ingress..

i guess bmw msia as the principal sets the price for dealers to follow.u may check with other dealers to ascetain if there's any difference.mayb the only thing u could differentiate is the tarde in value of ur car.from my observation, bmw msia is getting very aggressive recently on the e90 & e60 models.las mth i saw tis 1.38% interest package for 7 yrs tenure.if i m not wrong it applies to brand new cars.our fellow forummer jus informed usa bt the latest promotion.mayb the previous promotion is no longer valid.based on posting in this forum.everyone seems to suggest ingress provides the best service.

If you ask any of the official dealerships, their bread and butter is the E90 & E60. Without agressive sales on these, I'm sure their dealerships will be taken away.

Thanks Mr President for the warm welcome :) You have a good suggestion to get the 323 LCi as I went to test drive it during lunch... Still, why the E60 feels much more comfy to drive?

I'm still at odds with the steering of the 3 series. Feels like I have to makan more to reverse the car

if u dun mind pushing ur (or his) budget a little bit further,u can go for 523i i.e base model.can try to check out for the bets deal.pre reg should b slightly cheaper ....close to 300k....

haha....tat's very true.these 2 models r the volume sellers.mercs r even more aggressive in terms of giving attractive deals.when i was at the showrm b4 xmas,i was surprised promotional interest rate covers non volumes ellers like 3 series coupe, convertible & x5.seems like not much comment on 3 series coupe.dun see many on the road...agressive promotion during yr end is understandable & logical.

My advice is to forget about this 523i unless u are looking for a family cruiser.. huge, dumb and under power.. 320i is a lot more responsive by comparison.

525i is a totally different story though..

since our friend prefers e60's comfy to drive,523 base model could b a better choice if price do matters.if otherwise, obviously 525 tops the choice.should avoid recon if possible

From 325 sport to gti...that is really a down grade....you might want to recondsider your thoughts...

Actually you'd be surprised that despite its bulk, the E60 523i doesn't weigh a lot more than a E90 325i. Both are 1500kgs+, with the E90 320i ~1400 kgs. Likey due to its aluminum front end chassis.

In terms of performance, the facelifted E60 523i (8+ secs 0-100) should outsprint and out run the E90 320i (~9 secs 0-100) in the top end as well. Moral of the story, don't drag or race a facelifted 523i from the stoplights or on the highway with your 320i :)

Aiyaa... 0-100 is pedal to the metal all the way mah... we where got drive like that wan? We still find the low/mid rev range for the 320i is more responsive than the 523i, even at "D" mode..

Of course when we tested that 523i, the whole of Peter's family is sitting at the back la.. :p

A difference of 100kg between 320i and 523i is like carrying an Audrey and a Rachel in the car le.. :p

Yeah true. The 5 is more relaxed in drive with longer steering ratios and gear ratios. The 320i probably feels nippier due to the final drive and short gear ratios causing the revs to climb faster, but in actuality, the 523 is moving quicker.

100kg is Audrey + Rachel? (they so skinny wan ar?)l, but its like them being pulled by 40 horses :).

Ehh, I do that every morning going to work! Good for the engine. By the time I reach the Kiara toll from my home, the car is warmed up. There's hardly any traffic going that way in the morning, so I floor it, listen to the beautiful howl of all the horses in the tunnel, lift-off pedal mid-tunnel and coast out at 140kmh. That's how I discovered the 2nd stop of the accelerator pedal BTW.

But now that Cristiano Ronaldo has wrecked his Ferrari in a tunnel on the way to training, maybe I'll lift-off earlier! :D

reminds me of my rx8 days...taking the rpm all the way to 9000 and listen to the buzzing sound of the rotary....how i missed that sound
