This is how I managed my income every month as a family man;
10% for my home loan
20% for my kids expenses+education
10% for insurance
10% pocket $$
10% car loan
5%-10% udm maintenance
10% for home expenses
20% for saving

ur cash reserve is stanby for emergency or only if u loose ur job?

the thread starter is long gone by now hehehe..when i was earning 4k/month was only driving iswara a/back and stayed in a rented house..and it was one of my happening times in life..miss those old times

standard of living in malaysia is almost unbearable......now we cant even survive with 3k of salary..............let alone....4k...just barely make it

minimum for house 300k
max per car 60k
insurance
waterbill
internet
electric
household
grocery
etcetcetc.....

need at least 10k to survive here....

i spend 18k and counting for my ride....and another problem emerge..no reverse gear....haih...

Bro e46 is a good ride :)
Fc is the best at 2002
4k income to own a BMW, I dont think is wise ( no offend ) seriously when u owning a 10 years old car, it will give u headache unless u maintain it yourself with the BMW 1.40 scanner ;) ( just bought it from MyBimmer )
Now I owning an e46 and e90 but I still love my old e46
:)

Regards
Axel

It is stanby for emergency, I'm an commission based earner, put more effort then will get more $$ :)

from your information , basic monthly income shall be 35-40k average (at least).

guys,

i think all of us are thinking that he will be keeping the vios and buy the E46.

so thread starter, are you going to keep the vios or use that as the DP?
because if he is using that for the DP, the E46 repayment will be far less.

Also as mentioned, please do not get a lemon. Pay a little more and get a well/good machine.

For me, since he has no other commitments, from my experience 4k should be enough.
lets say 1k for car loan
1k for future house.
1k for for maintenance/roadtax and all the other stuff.
1k makan/minum.

ok what i think.... cause from my own experience, i'm driving E46 320i, no issues with something like that kind of allocation of salary.

But it's all up to thread starter.

well that's almost the amount spent on bringing back an old e36 running with a little trouble free mind ... yeh at times emergency do pops out .. you never know

Hello Mohan

I have the same pay range, same car e46 325 (bought 4 months ago), already spent around 5K ++ for reworks. There is a lot to know about a UDM before buying one, I made the mistake of not taking any sifu's with me to check out the car i bought.

Luckily, mine can be salvaged but it requires a whole lot of cash. Scratching my head to upgrade myself to be able to afford the car. (;-p)

But...... a bimmer is a bimmer and no jap comes close (in the price range of course) unless you're talking about some crap wiralution that's even more unreliable and gives you a tin kosong manhood feeling.

E46 is still easily maintainable and the parts price has dropped alot. Purchasing parts etc. online will help you alot.. otherwise having a good mechanic is the key, who won't simply do unnecessary things!

LOL... Hearing most of the comments really are a bit on the ego side or simply to show off... I think His salary is fine if he want to enjoy life... Earning so much and owning everything is nothing if You are dead tomorrow :p

But then again I Own an E46 when my Salary is about that Figure... and (Other than owning a GEM) i think i spend less than RM5 K so far... as most of the things are either DIY or Friends Installed and parts are from the Best+Cheapest Source = Save tons of money.

Rule of Thumb is 1/3 of Salary = Car +Fuel... then ur actually good to live comfortable :p

Hurmmm looking at 4K should be ok ... Some repairs can be hold for a few months then solved some are urgent...

MOST CASE are rich farts who knows Jack and keep changing/repairing stuff that they don't know the purpose or problem ... Not to mentioned Unimportant upgrades and works on Their UDM. Thats why it sound and cost expansive...

In Reality...

All Normal Fault Cost less than RM500 if you know where to look and "the know how" enough not to be cheated by self proclaimed experts in the workshop.

Urgent Works will cost less than 2K-3K

Urgent Major works will cost less than 6K

Major Interconnected Problems cost Less than 10K-20k (which usually can be done in stages *correct me if im wrong)

More than that its either uve been cheated... As most of the money are spend on paying for profit and labour which is always overcharged... Ebay all E46 Parts New/Old you will know the price...

And once you change that part (if its a good one) it will last at least 3 times longer than normal cars.

Hence the need to Have a Saving of 10K at least if you want to solve everything in a go... honestly there is still a long list to make my UDM perfect mint condition but we need to know which one is urgent/important first

Regards to all future BMW Owners :) Its not named UDM for nothing

Price of E46 328 yr 2000 should be around RM40+-50+K for basic car, as you need a huge deposit as bank only offer 3 years loan at max RM20K-30 at 5-6% interest

Hi all sifu...

I'm just a newbie in this forum... from JB... Would like to seek some advice from you all...

I have just sold my car 2 months ago, was planning to get a Korean new car at the first place, but I found out 318i is kinda affordable and one of my dream car as well (look at the car price RM50k-RM60k), just wonder how much loan can be approved?

I just will drive 2 days in a week, as I'm working in Singapore, back to JB on either Friday night or Saturday afternoon. Roughly will only spend 100KM-200KM per week only. So fuel consumption is not an issue to me (but definitely can't accept if the fuel cost RM0.30+/KM, RM0.20+-/KM still acceptable)

One thing afraid is the maintenance cost, I afraid once buy then have to repair this repair that every month, then will quite suffer for that.

Is it advisable for me to buy 318i?

From what I checked it's around that. The most Public Bank offers is around 35k. Interest around 5.7%..... That's very high monthly commitment for a 12 year old car. Tot bout it too much now, looks like i moving a way from e46 and going for e90 (2008-2009). If I come accross any models, is there any recommened workshop from you guys that I can get a second opnion on....

Good choice to go with E90 320d if you have the budget its economy yet powerful. 8 years loan at 3.2% is possible
