Why own a BMW!!!!

Bros, i'm really tired of people comparing continental cars and Japanese ones. You just can't compare Hagen-Daz and Wall's ice-cream or the locally made ice-cream Potong (hehe!)

Don't know if anyone has covered the issue of reliablity so here goes. I used to drive a Potong Wira and it was giving me problems every month after owning it for 4 years. Bought it brand new. For some reason, the wall that separates the driver and the engine (dunno what you call it, technically impared!) gave way and the mechanic said that was because I tekan the clutch too ganas like an F1 driver !!

Anyway, coming back to my story. I was quite taken aback with what the mech said cos I drive normal like anybody else (normal?) but was more surprised to see the wall of the car to be like the regular milo tin my mom used to buy !

I mean...what will happen if I had an accident...i guess the engine will end up on my lap...if I live to tell !

I also used to buy 'original' Potong (Proton) parts and some don't last very long. One time I had to change something twice after one month..air flow valve, i think. Small little bugger. Don't cost much. Not much reliability either. When I asked my mech, why so fast koyak lah...all he said was..."Proton-mahhhhhhh..." Buy original my f**t !

By the way, a Beemer has automatic cut-off when the car overheats, thereby saving the engine valves and pistons. Can a Japanese or Potong car do that? Maybe current Jap cars, i dunno.

Having a BMW also means people take you seriously and for what you stand for in life.

NO Bullshit !!

Why buy a Bimmer and suffer headches? Apart from the intangible attributes such as prestige, gaya, stylo, sex appeal and respect these are the reasons :

1. BMW is cheap as compared to a Porsche. You don't have to be a millionaire to maintain a BMW. What I am trying to say is that it is the affordable premium car.
2. BMW is the master of six cylinder in line. Even the lexus IS300 cannot come close. Mercedes Benz already stopped making 6 cylinders in line. The last model was 280E W124 model as far as I can remember.
3. BMW handling is very precise.
4. I've made an E66 7 series airborne by 2 feet at 250km/hr and landed safely on its rear wheel near dengkil R&R and still controllable.
5. BMW can chase a mad Toyota Wish driver with ease.
6. When it comes to continental cars BMW resale value is one of the best.
7. BMW Club Malaysia is the coolest car club in town.
8. BMW doesn't change models as frequent as Japs model.
9. BMW is designed not to look aged very fast. Even the E30 and E36 still look good.
10. BMW windscreen is very very strong.
11. BMW offers many model/engine options. For example, you can have an E39 body with M54 engine or E60 body with M54 engine. The choice is yours.
12. BMW is the trend setter. Most Japs cars are BMW wannabe. Not the other way round.
13. You can keep a BMW for life and turn it into a classic car. With the Japs car? I don't think so.
14. German build quality is simply better than the Japs.
15. BMW drives like a tank on steroid and stops like an F-14 Tomcat on arrestor hook on board USS Nimitz

Well, I have personally experienced buying a second hand BMW and yes.. the maintenance can shocked you... I bought a 4 year old E46 and spent RM40k the next two years to maintain the car... all parts started to just die off..... I am still having the car after spending the amount..... yes... there is a lot of joy in driving the car and good for your image too BUT if you do not have spare cash and feels the pain of having to cough out thousands to maintain the car, stay away...... it is an expensive toys that lot of people are willing to spend time and money on it... and if you are doing mental arithmetics and start questioning, forget it..... you are not ready for the pain that comes with the joy..... having said that I am waiting for the new facelift to appear in the Malaysian market perhaps end of next year ...... in life you seek for what you think is the best for you.....

You spent Rm40K in 2 years. Thats quite a lot in a short space of time. I spent the same amount in 7 years inclusive of my full overhaul last year, and my car is 26 years old. thats a lot for an E46. When we had the an 01 E46 318i and an 04 E46 325i, we never came close to spending that amount in 2 years. Where do u maintain your car?

Rm40k In 2 Years Is A Lot Man~~~~ My E34 Just Spent Around 15k in 5 Years~~ May Be You Kena "Potong" La~~~~!

$40K in 2 years??!..NO WONDER PEOPLE ARE SHIT SCARRED TO BUY BEEMERS!!

(but they forget you most probably have been taken to the cleaners, hehe!!)

Rm40K in 2 years is abit exaggerated? unless you change all bushings, suspensions the works. but even then it wouldnt go up to that much? unless u had a bad accident then maybe i can believe it. hmmm......

RM40k in two years is possible if you buy a lemon.

40k in two years??? i was using e30 before and the price for e30 timing belt is cheaper than my previous toyota seg timing belt!!!! i was shock and yet, the service given in bmw workshop is totally different than the regular workshop, its wonderful experience....

come on i drive an E24 which is 26 years old, and my car needs a lot of attention but not 40K in 2 years..

more than wordssssss

Im a Jap's car fanatic for almost 10 years, used to use Honda EG & EK. Always dream to own Subaru STi. Early this year, I started to test drive Subaru STi ver.9 as my saving and my new current job seems to allow me ;)...One day I went to futsal game with few old friendz, and one of them offered me to test drive his E46 325 Japs spec....a month later instead of fulfulling my long due dream, I owned E46 325...the point is, if you really really really looking to have fun and precise drive, this is the most affordable peace of machine....no words can desbribe the joy of driving BMW.......should I say INZAL? ;).....I think this is the most correct word to describe my feeling everytime cruising this machine.......

2. BMW is the master of six cylinder in line. Even the lexus IS300 cannot come close.
14. German build quality is simply better than the Japs.
2. That's very debatable. BMW has long history of making smooth Inline-6. IS300 uses 2JZ-GE known to its boost capabilites. If thre is best engine to-date award, it should goes to Nissan VQ30DE. Ward's 10 Best engine for 12 years straight, which replaced by VQ35DE. NO engine ever comes this close.
14. According to JD powers, Toyota & Lexus quality are the top in list.
