Okay.. to make things simple.. a friend's 146's clutch pedal does not rebound. He has to lift the pedal with his leg after every press. Went to the mech, was told there are 2 pumps. One under the dash and the other, have to drop the engine to access..

Another example. The 146 is running many nylon moving parts in the timing belt area and all these nylon parts and timing belt are due replacement every 30k km, average once every year. Cost of repair is in the region of RM3k.. u tell me what u think!

I say if BMW is a maintenance nightmare, they you obviously haven't own an Alfa before.. its make of EMOTION!! Truly said!

As the owner of both e46 325 sports & Alfa 156 2.5 V6. My personal opinion based on these 2 cars,

Performance
high speed crusing alfa is more stable and it touched 230km/h faster than bmw. Alfa has more top end, bmw is faster from 0-100km/h. Bmw brakes bite harder than alfa's brake. Alfa sound makes you wanna keep the engine reving & go faster.

Handling
bmw has better handling than alfa, can go fast corners like roller coaster. although, original alfa suspension sets to behave like FR, but it is a FF car = understeer.

Comfort
Both cars also quite bumpy but alfa will feels like banging into something while went through pothole on the road. BMW air cond cool the car faster.

In Terms of Maintainance cost, both about the same lar, may be alfa needs more wear & tear maintainance, but the original parts are normally cheaper than BMW. but I am impressed of e46 headlamp design, if the headlamp glass turn yellowish, you can just replace the glass, dont have to replace the whole lamp like other cars. from my experience, take care of your car, pay more attention to them while you are driving them around and the most important thing is, Don't simply modify your cars then you will not have so many problems at the end of the day.

Astroboy, please dont compare 146 and e46, they are from different era, different class.

Nope.. I am not comparing e46 with 146.. I am just commenting over its part reliability and maintenance nightmare (almost every parts remover require dropping engine in the case of the 146 ).. not so much about the part price or availability.

Alfa parts as cheap as BMW parts?! Hmmn... and I always thought merchandise that has lesser demand are higher in price and I don't see as many Alfa on the road as BMW.. :smokin:

I have so far commented about Alfa's maintenance nightmare.. what about the drive?! Judging from many short life span light weight performance parts used in the engine, yes both its pickup and top speed is superb! Can makan BMW quite easily comparing the same engine displacement class

Brake is great, ride is bias to high speed handling, so it's harsh compare to our performance LUXURY..

Depreciation is a lot steeper than BMW.. close to scrap after 5 years.. :p :D :stupid:

40K for 1.7Boxer = $750
40K for 2.0TS = $1K
60K for 2.5V6 = $2K

Price includes Labour ...

Saw this farnee looking Alfa in Tmn Tun wet market over the weekend.. stop and admire for a while.. nope.. not my cup of tea. One of the biggest hatch back car I have even seen.. :stupid:
