Alfa Vs BMW

For some reason while I was driving my Civic Ek4, SiR I had a lot of street runs with the 146 2.0 TS. Some also had the green cloverleaf stickers on them, but donno how genuine it was. My car was only a 1.6 manual, and these cars while sounded nice, were no match to the Dohc Vtec which ate them up alive despite much less CCs.

And also:

One of the most beautiful sportscars you can buy at any price. The GTV is beautiful and sounds even better than it looks. The styling is unmistakably Alfa Romeo, from that trademark triangular grille, through those distinctive twin circular headlamps, to the stubby, dynamic tail treatment of the GTV. Certainly, build quality is up to the highest Teutonic standards, an essential attribute given that Alfa had Audi, BMW and Saab in its sights when designing the car.

the alfa v6 engine is one of the most beautiful ones ever built. endurance runs also saw it being proven to be very robust. it's built much earlier but there was no continuous development due to lack of funds. so in terms of bhp development it is behind BMW.

nevertheless, alfa's V6 remains the best sounding engine you can have which makes you "connect" better to the car. the roar is truly intoxicating more than the boxer. however, the alfa 156 V6 2.5 is too nose heavy and instead the 2 liter twinspark is much better in handling.

Alfa Romeo never pretended to be the fastest or best car out there. To the italians, style is very important....the look, the sound, the feel. In those area nobody could match them for that price. Common man could afford a slice of heaven! :p

the reason is obvious... SiR has more power and better "moddaility" than alfa 146. high rpm rules. power rules! i had a chance to rent one last year when my e30 had to be top-overhauled. i am truly impressed by the engine's smoothness and free revving. quite high tech. but that's about it.

in sepang, civics are king trouncing all 146, 156. 156 can't even get close to them.

green cloverleaf is only a badge on some wannabes. the 146 Ti is itself a cloverleaf highest spec for 146. but i suspect quite a lot are just 146 1.6 120bhp.

How about explaining this. Two years ago, my friend who drives a Alfa 156 selespeed and I just finished for a late night drink in Hartamas. Both of us were at the traffic light and as the light turn green, we floored it. His 156 got ahead of me by 2 cars. I only manage to get pass him after that. I drive a E36 328 btw.

?????

your car is too heavy. alfa 156 selespeed is light. but later you got more power to pass him.

weight is always the enemy.

it's like a 156 v6 vs. 156 selespeed. from standstill or slow speed and then accelerate i always beat the v6 but up to roughly 170 180 and the v6 would pass me leaving me far behind and i can't close the gap anymore until traffic builds up and i out accelerate again up to 180.

The selespeed has no torque convertor mah...

Many cars can beat Alfas in a straight line drag due to greater power or power to weight ratio, but few can match Alfa handling and balance on twisty roads. They were built for Italy twisty narrow roads, not autobahns. ;)

alfas is a good car, passion, romantic,... btw i prefer bmw then alfas in term of local reliability, expertise and economical practicality. if I live in Italy or europe area, definitely alfas is a right choice. (actually Lancia car more better)

but for the people who have a ton of money geological and money is not a factor.
I cannot effort alfa, because passion, sexy, romantic, love, romeo.... come in greater price then prestige.
then the common solution to divorce alfas, sell it (in motortrade)
bmw is a car for successful as someone said, sell it when 'bankrupt' (in NST) .

:)

For me, I get orgasms just looking at the Alfa engines, most people polish their exteriors but I polish my Alfa engines...damm sexy engines. Looking at at alfa is like looking at a Dame, looking outside is not enough, you must want to look under the hood, and tinkel with it.

Make it a better thought man, B is after A means BMW the German's is more powerful than the Italian. Its the Bavarian who rule the world with Ultimate Driving Machine

i started to have serious interest in alfa after watching gabrielle tarquini driving (and later winning championship) the alfa 155 in btcc. the car was so good that it still won the constructors crown after handed with several penalties to equalize the field. to me the 155 still looks good today as it was then. almost bought one few years ago but circumstances changed.

you guys are right about italian design. gandini and pininfarina have never failed to impress us with their masterpieces.

but don't just look at their cars. just look at the ducati 996. the v-twin desmodromic motor is one of the sweetest sound on the road ever...........imho.

Sorry acidburn, but you can't twist it around...B is after A means B is second to A. :p The UDM is better in the luxury field, but those of us who know Alfa know that in the pure sport performance field, A is better than B. ;)
