Priaulx and BMW Retain WTCC Titles
An exciting season comes to a climax at the Macau GP

Going into the Macau race weekend, 9 drivers still have the mathematical chance of becoming the 2006 WTCC champion, with Augustus Farfus in a privately entered Alfa Romeo in the lead. With 2 rounds of racing in Macau, anything is possible and anyone within 20 points can still win the championship.

Andy Priaulx in the new E90 put himself into pole position for race 1 and after the usual Macau mayhem, led from start to finish with some of his rivals getting stuck behind heavy crashes.

Duncan Huisman, not a regular starter in the series, but made it to his favourite track. Having won 3 times in Macau previously, he pushed Priaulx all the way to finish in a very good 2nd place.

Having won Race 1, the reverse grid system see Priaulx starting on 8th for Race 2. Jorg Muller can still win the champinship if he wins Race 2 and Priaulx finished 7th or worse.

The start of Race 2 sees the RWD BMW of Jorg Muller rockets into the lead from 3rd on the grid. He passed the FWD Seats by turn 2. Mayhem reoccured after several crashes, most notably the Alfa of Farfus.

Priaulx managed to pass a few cars to get himself into 5th but he was chased hotly by Giovarnadi in a Honda Accord. The ex-Alfa driver constantly reminded Priaulx of his presence by giving him some "friendly bumps" but Priaulx maintained his composure to finish 5th and won the 2006 WTCC title by one point.

good racing although only one real overtaking place....which was also a parking lot for those unsuccessful!
