Not only engine la. Its a piece of race technology which includes the brakes and suspension so much so, it has almost zero maintenance practicality score.. :(

Imagine needing to replace timing belt & the many nylon sprockets/pulleys every 30k km for the 146 and every cyclinder runs 2 spark plugs on the twin-spark.. :stupid:

If you were in front, how do you know it's a 156 TS Selespeed and not the 2.5 v6? The latter should have no problem keeping up with the E36 328i. However, from my own experience "playing around" with 156s, most of 'em are modded and these guys got bimmers in their crosshairs! I myself got tapau-ed by two 156s before while I had my E46 325i.

I also had this experience b4 of having lunch with a bunch of alfistis and they were going on and on about their bimmer killing runs b4 I eventually revealed my affiliation. In the end, Alfa enthusiasts and BMW enthusiasts are so similar, like Man U vs. Arsenal. So many of us too (like myself) are in the italiaauto forum and vice versa. Wonder what Zoakies have to say coz he's both. Just don't kill each other esp on public roads, hahaha!

Aiyaa... nowadays, AE86 also can tapau an average 2.0L car la.. :D Just drive at your own pace.. remember, a good driver don't need a fast car to go fast.. right?... no? :smokin:

Racing on public road its not about how big the engine is la.. its about how big the balls are.. :D

AB, not that bad..lah. I even ran a Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo from new for 6 years. No major break down, except wear & tear items. Mostly rubber hoses need replacing. Engine, gearbox, turbo, even the brembo brakes also no kacau.

Only thing with Alfa, maybe like JPB mentioned, always try to outrun BMW. Tune here, mod there without a balance or even the proper know-how in upgrade. No wonder Alfa got such bad rep here. :stupid:

Then again, you are right that a tuned car from the land of the rising sun will blow both Alfa & BMW away, at a fraction of the cost. So unless we can afford an M3 or an upgraded M3 tune by specialist, its still not an apple to apple comparison.

Well.. u don't need to drive fast to enjoy driving, that wan is called "enjoy speeding".. its "Sheer Driving Pleasure".. Not "Sheer Speeding Pleasure".. :D

True, I enjoy the FR balance chassis at cornering more over the sheer power of acceleration. A 220bhp to 192bhp is quite a drop, but made up by the balance and the refinement of the driving nature.

There are times when I do wish my 02' e39 525 is a 530 tho. Just for the torque in the few initial seconds from stationery and out a corner. On the straight its more than enough for "Sheer Driving Pleasure". "Power Corrupts" also, we just want more! :burnout:

alfa drivers are a bunch of speed freaks

they race a ferrari if they see one....win or lose different story :top:

So when will you start racing the Ferraris... ;)

Owned a 2.0 146Ti, tapau many 3i8,320,and some 325,328... its manual, so makes a difference too... Like my brothers EG6 B18C, will tapau my 328 anytime!! No clue at times... anyway both alfa and bimmers are great cars to play with...

have fun...cheers

Used to drive a 146 Ti. Manual shift and stock standard, fastest I ever went with that car was 225~228 km/hr with that 2.0 liter engine and 150hp. The 156 2.0 Selespeed benefitted from a 5hp gain through remapped engine.

Though sleeker and hence lower CD, it is also heavier.

Unless it was modded or rechipped, it is unlikely that it will outgun a good condition E46 328 on the straight, pedal to metal. On sweeping bends, that would be a different story, actually depending on your balls and most hard core Alfistis have loads of them. Smoking a Beemer ranks higher in pleasure than sex for them..

Do the wise thing by moving aside, in my opinion. Apart from an inflated ego and some bragging rights among their peers, nothing much else that is good can be derived from such acts.

Hahaha!! Very well said!!!

very simple lor, do a sprint shoot out between Alfa and BMW club. Do the 0-100ms test.

It's being done b4 and why not do round 2. :)

Sorry, FWD cars cannot corner. (At the next HPC event, take a good look.) End of story.

Are you comparing the same power-weight ratio?

Ever overtake a group of Alfas at Sepang? Fun.

Yeah, I know. Understeer is a bitch. So you compensate with more power. Then you run into understeer's evil twin sister - torque steer.

Good idea... after all, we did one with Honda Car Owners' Club once, why not with the Alfistis! Fiat not allowed though cos that one turbo mod kaw kaw wan!

i believe it was a 1562.5V6.. if not for the 2.5, it might have not follow you at your back...

this reminds me of the slipstream effect, cos one dirty forumer once tailgated me till 230km/h, till he slowed down to stop to fix his wipers before it flew away...

and another story about the 155 1.8L, i did smoke the car with my mere 1.8L M40 engine from duta damansara till damansara toll...at the straights he passed me, at the corners i over took him... it was a nice sprint..
