bro, can just install the paddle shift steering to the car if it's post 99 ? do we need some other modifications?

im interested..hehe

Yes you can do it, but not sure who does it in malaysia, or even if anybody does it there. I'm in the UK, so plenty around.

You will need:

E39 with Auto Steptronic box (Apparently post 03/1999);

The SMG steering from E46 M3 SMG (£550 here in UK, but could get one off ebay for around £350);

If your old steering is the similar shape, but without SMG, you can reuse the airbag. otherwise airbag alone cost £410;

and finally, you will need a harness set which will link the paddleshift to the transmission system. Apparently you can DIY this. Costs £110.

shall i let you know that bro Hybrid in this forum is selling his E46 SMG steering complete with airbag for RM3800. been trying to sell it quite a while i think.

just for anyone who might be interested

bear in mind that it will not improve your performance, it will be the same as shifting you gear up and down with the stick, but I suppose theres a certain 'kepuasan' value from shifting it with the paddle :top:

ya shift up and down is fun when u r seeking for torque...but 1 of my fella already throw out his SMG gearbox (E46) @ 120k km coz he frequently used tiptronic all the time..

there's a difference between a SMG gearbox and a Steptronic gearbox.

SMG gearbox is a truly manual gearbox, but controlled by the paddle shifters, and move gears sequentially. This is like the ones used in the E46 SMGs. If you dont move the gears it wont change.

Steptronic is essentially an auto gearbox, which you have an option to move the gears where you want it to.

ohhh i thought SMG is same as normal steptronic gearbox but only with extra paddle shifter.. :rolleyes:

The easiest way is by chipping, however the gain is around 10%, getting 190bhp from a 170bhp is a big jump, you might want to look for mods on the exhaust system and the the filter in addition. Oh yes, and chipping alone will set you back from RM1500 onwards.

champion, what types of exhaust system are available or solution for E39 especially at low/mid rev? How much the cost? Any idea how much power will gain? tq

Super sprint

Extractor, Muffler, Center Joint and catalytic converter RM 8k - 10K

Mine is UK spec - 525 m sport - no sunroof, no electric seats no on board monitor...

Agree with Kevster the 530 has a better FC. The 525i only gives you about 336miles on a full tank and the 530 345miles with a 2.5 gearbox.

Pickup and mid range very good but kena cucuk top speed pick up a bit slow la. gearbox working overtime.

Mechanic says both 525 and 530 gearbox are the same just need to add another extra clutch plate to get the 530 result. any advise on this guys. or just go with the 530 gearbox and final drive......

very gatal already want to do full 530 conversion. Got a trade in offer for a 530 gearbox for RM3500 + free final drive and long sub. that also haven ketuk the price yet.

thanks, asked a shop and was quoted RM2500 for the extractor. Does it a need to change the whole things (Extractor, Muffler, Center Joint and catalytic converter) or the extractor is enuf? I was told that the extractor is enuf already, but i have no idea about the mod. Any advise will be great. thanks

By changing the extractor or some call it header is to replace the restricive exhaust manifold. While changing the extractor alone does result in some improvement at low end, but if you do not opt to change other parts of the exhaust system, ie piping backbox, cc, you could experience backpressure.
Too much backpressure will result loss in power.

Remus exhaust system is not too bad either.
