If this 523i is reg 2000 and mfc late 9x, RM60k is seriously on the high side.
Given I have RM60k budget, I'd top up a tad more for the 530i one of our forummers' selling....manual tranny ftw.

and had been tested by an official member here ..at least 1/2 of the hassle is over of you testing cars out and then getting ripped left and right only to regret later that it's a lemon ...

the ad is already expired.. couldnt find it.. but u can go n see it at the used car centre besides kontena nasional office in sunway.. i dun really know much, but judging from the doorstep, the exterior trim, and the m power engine cover.. most probably its an m-sport.. but i could be wrong.. sorry for the 'original' post just now

salam. hello all. newbie here.

i just got my car tonight. i was marking the same car like u mentioned above earlier but it was gone very quick less than a day! a guy came all the way from terengganu by bus paid cash. and guess what, i met that guy at the shop. that car is 523 model.

luckily that shop still got one more uk spec 2002 built m sport 525 and it was never advertised. i saw it and directly paid deposit and i am very lucky to have it parked in my parking space now. (really hope it is ori m-sport, for the price i paid)

That the thing about buying cars from 'these'used car dealers. Their every sale will leave you wondering with many doubts....CKD is a safer choice unless one is familiar and willing to research on the make before making the purchase.

im considering of upgrading my e34 to e39. and i prefer 525. i really want to know how to recognize 525 n 523 since i dont trust the rear series badge plus most of the e39 nowadays had the badge removed.
how to recognize ckd from import(cbu)?
and how to recognize m52 and m54 (2500cc)engines visually?
really hope answers from all e39 sifus. dont want to be conned by used car/ dealer/ seller.

First of all, check the Built Date by checking the VIN number on RealOEM.com.

Before 2000 is M52, after is M54. Realoem will tell you which engine it had. Visually from the engine bay its hard to tell the difference between M54 and M52TU, I also dont know until now. Most engine parts are shared between the two.

Easier way to tell is the accelerator pedal feel. M54 is run by wire so lighter pedal, while M52/M52TU is run by cable.

Your best bet is RealOEM still, bring a phone/ipad with internet and check on site if seller wont give VIN number beforehand.

CKD will have a plate on the engine bay saying its built in Malaysia.

M52 only has one vanos head.

M52TU and M54 has two vanos head.

U can see the cable in M52TU engine, but not in M54.

Don't trust the badge as we have 530i engine in 520i.

Haywire is correct. VIN no tells almost everything. In fact back a few months ago before i got my black 530i, i was at the same place near the kontena near sunway, paid 1000 booking for a 525i and waits the rest of loan processing etc. Luckily i checked the VIN of the car with realOEM, it turns out the Blue m-sport 525 was not even a m-sport, it is a 523 with manufacturer dated a full 3 years earlier than as claim by the dealer. I print it out and showed it to the dealer, he argued that the car reg says it is year 200x, full 3 years difference. The dealer deducted $200 for proccessing fee, damn. Dont trust the dealer, reg card, specs on the car, the badges, the bumpers, the engines and mmm everything else you see. I thought i was careful but still the crooks are better at their games with experience.

Anyway, learnt later that paid VIN check shows more detail so i paid rm3x.00 for a full VIN disclosure, you can check a sample of my 530i below

Err....bro JTD, sorry to bring this up, but after comparing both our specs, I dont think yours was an original M-Sport. You specs missed some rather crucial M-Sport criterias:
