ICV cleaning...diy..

Abang Moot....seems that servicing the ICV doesn't cure the rough idling, what is the problem? The idling is bad especially during cold start and comes with a very bad smell...do I need to replace the ICV?

cuba rotate the icv quickly..you shud b able to feel the the valve inside moving and it shud move freely.hook up the icv and switch on the car.....not start....u shud b able to feel that feller vibrate...klo suma ok....d icv ok....next...
chrck fr vacuum leaks....

Abg Moots, done as you said...can feel something moving in the icv i.e clunking sound when you shake the icv, can feel the icv vibrate when on the switch....so the icv is good. Bought the new bellow (RM65) from BA...end result...still vibrate during cold start just like before!! The new icv is RM600!!

Read lots regarding this cold start issue from other forum, seems that this problem is a nightmare for e39....some even replaced everything vacuum related to no success...just live with that I guess... :smokin:

my aircon compressor ran it's last miles. changed the compressor, dryer, gas and labour for rm2,400. now the aircon is too cold :D

Dear Members,

I am aware that this is an e39 thread. However, I would appreciate if I can get some unrelated advise.

I just purchased five year old E60, 520d with a mileage of 100,000km. I would like to seek advise on preventive maintenance. My questions are as below:

1) Breakdown - What are the Top 10 breakdown causes for this model?

2) EWP - Which are reliable EWP Workshops for this model in Klang Valley and Kuantan?

3) BMW Official Service - From my research at the old club website, Wearnes and Quill have good reputation as Official Service Dealers. Do their good reputations still stand and are there any others that are equal or better?

Cheers and much appreciated!

abang....CCV sudah check? If the internal diaphragm is the sudah koyak, you will have vacuum leak and bad idle...

how to check...at the opposite side of the ccv there is a vent hole (square).with engine running(right after first start of the day when engine is still cool) reach yr arm in and close the vent with your finger.if idle improves.....voila....there's yr culprit...

the vent is on the opposite side of the orange colored diaphragm...

Ok..tried it this morning, when I closed the vent, the engine 'macam nak mati'....when I unblock the vent the idle comes up but still shake the whole body...so the ccv is good? next?

ahah.....there's yr problem.when you put yr finger kat vent tu ada rasa suction x?klau rasa...yr diaphragm dah bocor and needs changing.

the reason yr engine macam nak mati when the vent is closed is becoz the engine has adapted to the leak.try closing the vent for a bit and let the idle system re adapt itself.klo it stabilises after awhile....then yr ccv memang dah bocor....update us bro....

Memang 'suction' dia kuat sangat.....hmm rosak la tu yek..i thot it was made that way(to suck air)... :stupid:

experienced bad cold start idle too. turns out the culprit is the camshaft position sensor
