yes yes...good thinking. I don't think he's done his yet too. My atf change is due sometime soon and i was told by QA to come for software upgrading after i get my ATF & filter change done.

Call me when u are ready, all of us go together. Maybe can get group discount :top:

You mean for software upgrading or what? Ours are single vanos la dei..except for champ's ride...double!

Software upgrade.

How much it cost anyway?

It ain't gonna matter much anymore if your cars had software updates or not. Been running for so many years without it.

There won't be much difference. Maybe very slight smoothness, maybe some electic modules will work a bit better (even when u can feel or see it), nothing ever so small a differrnce you can tell.

For Single Vanos Auto-Box Ecu software upgrades, if you can do it via Progman or GT1 let me know. So far Only read parameters, states and ID only as far as I know, software update via ADS K line is not possible. something inside the box will not allow to do that.

For Single Vanos Auto-Box Ecu software upgrades (which is known as EGS) can be updated. When thye update the DME, the EGS gets updated as well to sync both the engine and trans with new values.

Don't understand why people are shy to share what was the price they paid for software update. I did mine at M-Speed for RM200.

Ok. Good to know. Mind telling us what new values are sync between the DME and EGS?

Haven't done mine yet. But was quoted by QA around 100ish. They told me they don't simply go about updating the software unless there is a need to and a preliminary check on any fault codes on DME & EGS will be done first. I did this preliminary check and cleared the AGS value only the other day for 100bugs. Will get atf change and head for software updating there.

Once i get it done, i'll have the print out of the updating process. I expect that the values should be listed there. Will keep you posted.

Hi all esteemed members of BMWClubMalaysia,

I have decided to make the purchase of an 520i E39 Year 2002.

After a series of checkup at MSpeed today, Ah Meng quoted me the following:
1. Heater Valve - RM600
2. Fan Belt (Ori) - RM190
3. Fuel Filter - RM200
4. Oil Gasket - RM280
5. Oil Level Sensor - RM300
6. Software upgrade - RM200

The other components he says that can change at a later time would be:
1. Lower control arm
2. Gear box mounting
3. Engine mounting
4. Power Steering hose leak
5. Rear stabilizer arm
6. Fuel pump
7. Petrol float

Are the price he quoted okay and is it safe to drive the car without changing the other items such as gear box mounting and engine mounting? How about fuel pump?

Thanks for all of your advice!

The prices quoted appeared OK overall but perhaps you could negotiate some discount on the total bill. As for the mountings, do you feel any vibrations? If not, no need to change but they are not big ticket items, about RM 500.
As for the fuel pump, it's difficult to tell when it should be changed? Do you hear unusual loud noise just before you crank the engine?

Thanks for the response Jerman. In earlier posts, one member mentioned that the oil sump gasket is only RM115. The one Ah Meng quoted is OEM version. Is there a reason why the big difference?

Wow! Good price! I will check it out.

Meanwhile, I am curious if the mechanics are okay if we purchase our own parts and we only pay for labour fees? Which of the mechanics are very okay with us bringing in our own parts? (I stay around Mutiara Damansara but am willing to travel to get car serviced)

Chief, is it easy to get the oil sump gasket replaced? I mean do you hv to bring down the front lower suspension frame in order to remove the oil sump? what's the labour for this work?

bro,
If it's your regular mechanic then it should be OK to bring some big ticket items. Try this,

BM Works Specialist
23, Jalan T1B 1/17
Taman Industrial Bolton
Batu Caves
03-61862006
016-3634975 (Vasu)

Don't think so.

p/s: Yes, the labour charges are more than the item itself.
