Dear all bro and sister,

Is was my pleasure to write here for your all,

already ban my idea to get an e46, but move it to e39

if 520i (2.0) and 2.2 all with 5 speed? or it also have 4 speed?

and can shifu teach me different of 523i and 525i both also 2.5, which one better?

Thank you for advanced.

525i = Engine M54B25 Double Vanos
523i = Engine M52B25 Single Vanos or M52TUB25 Double Vanos

Best is to check VIN number to get correct spec.

Best regards,
Azren

I never seen before e39 come with 4 speed ler..

Most of the e39 in Msia market is 5 speed steptronic autobox.

Hi bro,

It's best to bring along a mechanic that is well versed in BMWs, they may point out any issues that needs immediate attention and of course it's associated cost. That's what I did when purchasing all of my current & previous UDMs, so far I've not encountered any major issues. Just normal wear & tear items.

Since its a year 97 you may need to spend quite a bit on preventive maintenance if you decide to get the car, unless you know the previous owner personally or it comes with a bunch of service records. FYI cooling system is one of the weak points of an E39. Look out for leaks at the engine bay and the overall condition of the car. Like what bro Ariff Habshi said, try to avoid the 520i as its really underpowered. At least get a 523i. As far as I'm concerned only the early E39 batch that was sold in the states runs on 4-speed unit.

I do own an E39 and its has been a real pleasure to drive her every single day. How I wish Its a 530i and not 528i haha. All the best in your hunt!

Bro...with the reqllynlow prices of the e39 try get something more powerful. Doesnt cost too much.

Btw 523i is 170hp...same power with the newer batch 520i with m54 engine (2000 onwards). If i remember correctly the old 520i only have 150hp.

The 525i has 190hp.

Most e39 comes with 5 speed steptronic gearbox..where you can shift up and down yourself.

But I have also seen few early e39s with 5 speed automatic gearboxes without steptronic.

Dearest bro haywire and valvetronix,

really thank you for the advice and really appreciate it :knuddel:

I already bring my chief technician to check the 520i(2.0), engine condition ok, gear box also smooth with 5 speed.
Front absorber already soft and aircond not that satisfy,

End up i decide to take it
I already paid deposit for booking it.
like my wife said, it wont be your last car.

last time i plan to take e46 318i (1900cc), i think this inline six should be better then the e46 (1900cc) :106: .

thank you alot bros...

Any advice also welcome
