Bro BMW520,

Check tire pressure, VANOS seals, Spark plugs and ignition coils and engine oil viscosity. Mine is on 10W-40 Semi Synthetic oils.

Driving style also affects a lot. If I am full throttling most of the time, mileage will suffer too.:burnout:

Bro psykit, tire pressure 36psi, vanos seal changed, spark plug in good condition, ignition coil changed all 6pcs, engine oil 10W-60 full synthetic...driving style is just like normal human only...wonder what is the problem

have you got the ccv and complete 4 hoses replaced? i did mine recently and the FC is obviously improving. when change the ccv, get also your TB and ICV cleaned. btw mine is m54b25 2001.

Another factor is shorter average range per trip will lead to high FC. If I travel 20 km per trip my full tank will give 500-600km but when my trips down 3 to 5km I only get 350km per tank.

I drive an e46 with 2.0 engine so might not b the same as 39

I think this point make sense as i usually drive less than 20km per trip & traffic jam here n there during office hour. If highway full 70liter tank can reach 500km...

i could not agree more. it's worse if odw out from your house to the main road there are a lot of humps.

Hi, Bro tweiboon,
I has a friend driven 2003 525i and now just changed to MB C200 CGI, heard different stories from him....he said this MB C200 is better than BMW 5 in terms of pick-up and FC.
I sat inside can feel it is very responsive !

Bro, that is not an apple to apple comparison, as you are not comparing it with in the same class. C-class is equivalent to the 3-series, where as the E-class is the equivalent to the 5-series. A whole lot of difference in terms of weight, power delivery and FC.

Bro BMW520, seems you already replace most of the stuffs, however your engine oil is a bit heavy, try 10W-40 if you have no issues with engine consuming oil. Also have you ever replaced your pre-cat O2 sensor? I'm not certain on this yet as I've read that it affects fuel consumption very much.

BTW, 36 psi is very high, don't you feel bumpy? I'm on 31 psi front and 32 psi rear only.

Like all the other members mentioned, it could also be due to short trips you are making. I drive an avg of 55-65km a day passing the "horrigible" PG Bridge traffic. :motz:

Yes, the pre cat O2 sensor is the one that controls your fuel trim. A bad sensor can cause the engine to run rich, using more fuel that you need to.

Mine 530i with a slight heavy foot is somewhat constant 430km per tank driving around in KL.

I use 10W-40 before & consumption still same. pre-cat O2 not replace yet & do you know how much it cost? when i use 235 40 R18 tyre, i can gain 20km more with RM 100 petrol compare to current 245 40 R18 tyre.

U shd not be using a 60 oil for yr car. I think u shd b changing yr workshop, since they cant even get d engine oil right. The highest u shd use for yr car is a 40, 5w or 10w. 10w-60 is used for M cars n turbo cars.

Ahh there you go... Mine is only on 16" rims with 225/55/R16 tyres. Big rims will suffer a bit in terms of fuel consumption.

I'm not sure of the price yet as I have not change mine too.

Look good bro but look can be deceiving hence take a good mechanic and GT1 to double check.

My basic check list to short list my dream car
1. GT1 Scan / BMW Scanner 1.4
2. Visual check under the car, body and engine to see if any repairs done recently... especially for parts with pink marker (means items are from chopshop) cooling, engine and suspension parts must be new for your safety.
3. Start the engine to listen for rough noise or vacuum leak noise, run the car till its hot
4. Drive the car to check the gearbox condition and any other noise.
5. The steering must not have free play or noise
6. check every lights and electronics are working
7. Use your smart phone and check the VIN online to see if anything are missing items are retrofitted ie rainsensor, M Sport shocks, etcs

2.2 engine sound large but its a little underpower for such huge sedan therefore your fuel consumption may hurt ie RM110 will offer you 350km in the city

Good luck bro

Thanks for the info bro..How about 525i consumption ?

bro, the front tires require more pressure than the rears do they? it's because the heavier part of the car is at the front due to engine, headers and what not.

i changed both precat sensors new but cannot remember the price. but after changing the sensors my fc showed no improvement. it is only significant after i replaced the ccv.

Bro rx8,

i use 10W-60 due to less top up engine oil as some leakage. I'll change back to 10W-40 after get the leak fix.
