Newbie to E39

Fully agree with elwine30 that overall parts and maintenance of E39 is more than the 3 series. I believe, in the end, you need to know "where" to do it and also where to get the parts in order to minimise the big bills!
In the club, we have lots of sifu and many resourceful ones too!

yes,agree with jerman. I bought the parts saperately and will give it to the mech to fix it up.

however, i m more worried about the gearbox, the power steering pump and etc etc. others, i think it's pretty relative.

Also do note, the tear and wear for 5 is much faster compared to 3.

do you mean petrol consumption? I think this is the last thing we should worry about! Btw, depending on how "heavy is your right foot", a mixed driving conditions in Klang Valley traffic would give about 9km per litre

Hmm, don't know about that? Why is that so? Do you mean the parts on the 5 series do not last as well as the 3, assuming that one drives it in the same manner?

5 is a heavier car compard to 3.

Much heavier indeed. Thus, the increase in petrol consumption. This is more apparent if your driving style is more stop and go type. Not mush difference in th long hauls due to the momentum. Remember physics principal F (Force) = m(Mass) x a (Acceleration). Your brakes should wear out faster than the 3-series too. But youy gain in comfort and luxurious levels.

On the plugs, are yours the "4-legged types"?

Those are the price for parts only, exclusive of labour. Bought at the same "specialist" place. Yes, the plugs are of the 4 legged type.

Nope, I m just helping a friend to maintain one. Trying to get a feel before I actually own one. hahaha, see if I can afford one.

i think BMW maintenance isnt as high as italian car namely alfa romeo..i drove this italian car before my 5series E39..it was alfa romeo 168super 3litre v6..this car is good..very fast..but the maintenance killed me..hehehhhehehe..every month my alfa freezed in workshop..and have to dig about 2,000rm each month just for maintenance(seriously)..after one problem solved another problem rised..and after that the first problem rised again..and sometimes the mechanic didnt know what the problem is..they asked me to change this and that..and the parts..phew..triple than the 5series price..even i have to wait months for the parts to reach malaysia from singapore..and still the problem doesnt solve..so i sold my alfa and get myself 5series E39..

now i got peace of mind..my 5series didnt give me so much trouble..and the parts price also reasonable..
