What can you do with rm170?

BMW - 6x SPARK PLUG :stupid:

Kancil 660 - 3x SPARK PLUG .. BOSCH WIPER 14" .. Hella TWIN TONE Horn .. Balancing 4 Wheels .. Rear WHEEL BEARINGS .. Nasi Ayam & 2x herbal tea :top:

ha ha ha.....thats true...coz i also drive a kancil.......:rolleyes::wink::top:

tkm.....you should join the TTs then you can fire away all the questions thats bothering you.
or you can look for a good mechanic and say "whatever needs to be changed, please change it" but when the bill comes........basic stuff to be changed first lah...plugs oils seals etc.

am planing to get it but almost everybody told me dun get recon car... yes around RM150+K with full specs. Jap though.

e39 mostly will wear at d bushings, coz d car is quite heavy. keep an eye on ur suspension sys bushings such as control arm bush, swing support, upper/lower arm etc.

not to forget the absorber as well..it is pricey..

Just to share the cost of the standard absorbers ie Bilstein (black) or the Boge would be in the region of RM 400-430 per pc (Front) and RM 350-380 (Rear) excluding labour cost to fix!

that's boge or bilstein. If you are on M-Sports, you need Sachs. Not only pricey but hard to find!!!

yeah..forgot about the MSport version..i am quite sure the bushings and mounts for the MSport version is alaso different..as i have mentioned earlier in some of post, you don't just dive in to own a e39 you have to graduate from maintaining the lower models before you decide to own the higher models..the se7en is even more frightening to maintain..if you think the 5's is tough..

Bushing for all M sports are the same with the standard models except for the anti roll bars.

Bro,

I'm driving an exact model of what you're looking into, since March 2008. Initial repair cost, ya, hefty RM9.5k! All those parts listed as wear/tear were replaced/repaired inclusive of shocks and most, if not all, hoses.

Oh ya, it came with whopping 157k km on its odometer.

Been driving problem/maintenance free since then until recently more wear/tear parts start to show up... passenger airbag sensor, brake lamp unit (causing chk break lamp light on intermittently, mech says not sensor/wiring).

I'm getting the airbag sensor replaced in 2 weeks after the sparepart arrives. Also a broken wheel-arch-cover (lower part). In total I think damage around RM1k - RM1.5k with labor.

I only clock some 5k km on it since March 08. No complaints. Good ride! Maintenance? You do the maths...

Cheers!

Hi all,
I'm a newbie here, just bought my UDM in Sept. I've got myself a e39 525i 2003 ckd.
The drive is fantastic. I've been driving for >20 years and never have I learnt the meaning of car balance until I drove this car.
Just last month I have some problem with one of the ignition coils, sent my car to 3B Service in Chan Sow Lin for repairs. Have any of you guys heard of it before? If yes, would you give some comments please?
3B's boss told me there are a couple of things I must be weary of for this model:
1. ABS unit
2. Oil sump leaks
3. Radiator
4. Brakes

But just lately I've discovered some oil patches in my driveway, checked the engine and found that the power steering oil container (sorry, dunno the name) is springing a leak and the hoses attached are very very soaked with oil.
Can any sifu's here give some insights?

Thanks!

p/s: I'm looking forward to joining any Members Meet Up sessions. How do I go about it?

the easies and next happening events is to Joint the Annual Dinner at PD this Saturday ....

netaddict,
the mechanic is correct. but if it was me, i'd pay the cooling system (radiator, hoses, pump etc) particular attention. if kena overheat, it can get very costly. On the electronics, BMW mah...kereta baru pun boleh kena, and can be quite costly too. Others are just wear and tear...put aside RM500 per month for it. The power steering fluid container leaking oil is quite common. Do not be too alarmed. More important is the power steering rack itself.

Thanks Yazid, As much as I would like to join the Annual Dinner in PD this Saturday, I'm feeling a bit under the weather lately. :31: I have to pass for this occasion.

Thank Azan, for the advice. Will bring the car for check up once I'm feeling better. By the way, what are the precautionary measures for the cooling system other than keep a close watch on the temperature gauge and making sure the radiator water tank is always full?

Change the thermostat, water pump, top hose, bottom hose, reserve tank, radiator and the vent hose. you will be safe for the next 3 years+.

agree with wc9922 unless you have a proven history of the cooling systems being maintained / changed recently. my 528i came with a complete previous 1 yr history for me to be satisfied that the cooling system was tip-top. been using the car for more than a year already and no temperature problem so far...but still keep the eyes on the gauge once in a while, especially when the gear is in 'naughty' sports mode..heh heh
