for the first few months u will definitely need to spend to bring the car up to the right condition and then it will slow down and u will be able to enjoy the car.

Saupin,
Pussy is correct. The more you talk to the E39 owners, the more tips you'll pick up along the way. I have experienced what you are going through and I fully understand your concerns. From my personal records, as a rough guide, the average cost per month for service & maintenance is about RM 500-800

Good luck, bro!

I had the E39 530i in garage for 4 months total spent on repair/replace/service = 2400 ..
Fuel = 400/ month :stupid::eek:

hmm... so what your are saying is, eventhough i spent few K initially to bring the car to a good condition, i still have to consistently spend rm500-rm800 monthly to maintain it through-out its life span ?

Saupin,

it's an average per month of the full year.. sometimes, you do not do any major stuff on the car..

by the way, most of the members posted here are very passionate about their cars... a little bit off, change new, some also kiasu..

but so far a few is damn awesome.. like Isma and soon to be IM..

Pm them..

saupin, it will all depend on the condition of the car. buy cheap, you will need to spend loads doing it up. spend more and you will not have to spend much on maintenance. just pray you don't get a lemon which is why its important to get a specialist to view the condition of the car. this applies to any car and not necessarily the BMW unless someones sez no maintainance needed for any car is "B.S" (Bulls**t)

Dun worry bout the maintenance as the driving experience is priceless:love:

Thanks all for your valuable inputs ! :) You guys are just awesome !! :) Will be taking your advise, have arranged with the salesman to send the car to mechanic for a thorough check before confirming the deal sometime next week :).

good luck saupin. if u have the passion for driving and looking after your car, then u wont regret the decision. however if its just a mode of transport from A to B, and you want a car where you just 'isi minyak' and drive, then it might not be your cup of tea.

good luck on search, hope u find what u're looking for.

Most of our rides are in great conditions but we still need to spend easily RM 500 per month on the average. Just an example, my ride was running perfectly OK until 2 weeks back, temperature shot up:eek:. Changed the water pump, thermostart housing, radiator cap plus labour = RM 490

You wouldn't know what is coming next, bro?

Cheers

Thanks ! got the idea now :)

Due to the distance that I need to drive everyday from my house near sri hartamas to cyberjaya (about 45Km 1 way) , I really need a car which is reliable enough to not breakdown without any prior indication.. Also, I cannot afford to leave the car in the workshop for days because that is my primary means of transport. So, relaibility is my main concern here. I used to own a Fiat years back, nice car, conti, but relaibility is not there thus endded selling it off at a huge loss and I really hope that the next conti that I am getting will not have the same faith :p

So, with the above, do you think that it is still advisable to get a BMW ?
