Hate to be a wet blanket here... but i believe no other party is allowed to use the roundel... except BMWCM, (something to that effect, if memory serves) correct me if I'm wrong IPP Bundy.... this issue arose a while back... I have no issues except my inherent perverse relationship with all things legal :deal:

Not everything is about a suit bro.... if its known that Official Members of the Official BMW Club was misusing the Roundel (if what I said earlier is correct la), what do you think the repercussions are? Anyway, my 'job' here on this issue is done.... que sera sera

Hahaha...another round of unnecessary discussion.

Put it this way, if I want to print and stick a BMW LOGO on my car, does BMW has any issue with it? Just a LOGO and nothing else for my own private consumption. Is this consider an abuse of the roundel? I don't think so, but in fact we are helping to promote the ROUNDEL! Look at the WTCC, there are independent teams that have the BMW logo on their cars competing against the factory team itself, is it an issue?

Now, if you are running a workshop, accessory/parts shop, or a BMW forum, then there will be legal issues as it may give a false impression that you are an affliated partner of BMW and potentially confused end users.

That's why in many countries that respect the law, like the USA for example, many forums don't even use the BMW moniker as it is a trademark and hence you have bimmerforums, beemer.com and what not :)

And whether necessary or not...time will tell la... ;)

My point is very simple, it all depends on the type of usage of the roundel.

I believe the examples I've mentioned already made it pretty clear, and in this case I do not see any issue that will arise. Of course if these guys formed an Unofficial 7 series BMW Club, and use the roundel to promote their club or as part of their club's logo (hypothetically speaking), then it is a different matter altogether.

You get my drift now? :)

Can we still call it a roundel? His head more like a cone la....cabutzzzzz

Bailey punya cakeshop pun mesti kena sue la....poor thing his anak susah-susah procure for his 40th!!!

BR - your point is duely noted and it is important that we voice out obvious concerns that could lend us into hot soup.

However I don't see an issue in this case and can be distinguished from any potential suit or breach of copyright/trademark etc etc. Stickers shall be procured, pls prepared RM10 each to be collected on 12th am.

I like this....the Chairman has spoken. We are now absolved from all liability.

Jokes aside, good call Bundy

I have raised this issue before in the Council meeting, in 2008 where the meeting was held in Vancouver.

Anyhow to put this issue to rest, I cut and paste part of the declaration here, taken from BMW CC Canada.

"Individuals, groups, and organizations must request written authorization from the National Directors of the BMW Club of Canada if they wish to display electronically or in print a large form of the BMW CC logo or the BMW logo beyond that allowed by International Council guidelines (see http://bmwclub.ca/clubs/clublogo/logo-use.html). Written authorization must also be sought when either logo appears with that of a commercial or for-profit organization."

Actually I'm not too convinced many people e.g in USA respect the law..it's more that their 'loyar burok' will line their pockets massively for any perceived infringement..regardless who wins the case...that's why the lawyers there can advertise for free services & only take a percentage of your winnings when you win...that makes the good ole USA one of the most litigious in the world...

Cheers :)
