...go buy the single stage actuator, do some filing, screw in 2 screws ...kautim...all the button working...cost for modification RM300 if not mistaken, single stage actuator RM400...the result Priceless...

Seriously this is a very very good news for many early batch e39 owners, like me! Even many oversea owners also looking to retrofit those dual stage steering to their single stage e39. When i wanted to do mine, none of the useful info was shared across internet.

Ahh..now i regret to sold my alcantara M3 steering!

my original is with multi function...the actuator I was lucky that I had a friend with a single stage steering lying around so he sold to me cheap cheap ...but when I was looking around for it at chop shop its around RM700-800...I heard that in Singapore can get for RM600. When u have evrything already then I take u to the shoplah...

But how the actuator looks like? The one attach on the steering like the pic below? I goooogle "single stage actuator" also can not get any info ler..Sorry too many question as too excited.

no its not that ,that is the slip ring.....its the thing that explodes to inflate the airbag...if not mistken it was taken form e36 steering...will check for you...

...I also try google but cannot find maybe thats not what its called..but basically its the thing that causes the explosion.

how it hook up ah ...I dunno what happen in between bcos when I went there the steering was ready, so just took out the old steering and fit the new steering.

Basically can solve the airbag problem but need to know how it hook up la..

Faris, not need to gb, just buy locally and sacrifice one single stage steering as we need the airbag.

a friend of mine,who has a 2002 525i replaced his steering wheel with this model...plus he has the paddle shifter!!!
the shop he sent for fitment connected 2 wires that runs from the steering wheel to the gear lever.....look wayyyyyy too cool.but at rm 3000.....i'll pass........

2002 model no issues just plug and play...its the earlier models that have issue ...thats what this thread is all about..

This is smg steering, not sure the function and fitment is plug and plug to non-SMG car?
