Happy to hear you are enjoying the 320d adzri-great to have met you at KLIMS 2010! I am sure you are grinning from cheek to cheek everytime you tekan the 320d throttle!

........Before one leaves the face of the earth, one must own and drive a 320d.-wise saying from old sage of yore.

awesome drive doc! nice to meet you too. need to be alert all the time.

I told you you would enjoy the 320d, adzri!!Be careful about the crazily high torque-a little too easy to spin the tyres and fishtail the car espicially on rainy days....Cheers, mate!

I know we can't compare BMW with jap car but I really wonder how 320d perform against Mitsubishi evolution 9 or the sti v9. The torque of both jap are around 420nm. What about the golf gti?

The Golf GTI beats us flat...still, it doesn't have a big boot...so that's a big advantage already.

Had some friendly run-in's with evo's and a sti. There seem to be no difference in pace once you are above 100 km/h but they seem to lose their power at higher speeds, above the normal jap speed cut. Also the Msport looks to be more stable taking corners than those cars.

So far haven't come across a friendly gti yet :)

both the evo and sti sure will smoke the 320d from still to 200km/h, but once beyond that, no much different among them. Golf gti jus too good in high speed range, and the DSG gearbox is a great helpful to the car, which allow the driver to drive fast even unskillful.

HAving owned, driven and tuned a Subaru Impreza before,I can truly say that there is just no compare.True, the accelleration does seem to taper off above 220kph,but by then the 320d will be long gone.
On the handling department, these jap monsters corners like they are on rails..no compare there either.

To be fair to the 320d tho..these are very different cars with very different characters. And the 320d trumps all these other cars when it comes to fuel economy and ease of use/access to that fat torque curve.

true....the 320d is for good economy and nice for daily drive. different animal than a sti/evo. 320d has nice thump to get going....but falls flat rather fast.

Subaru owner here too. Well, seriously we don't compare those 2 cars. One is to give you the executive look and feel, excellent for daily driving around the city and yet absolutely amazing long distance. Subaru ... handling champion, that fierce look it gives you. Different.

Compare against C or A4 la ..

Of couse can not compare those cars, but maybe he jus wan to find out whether got any chances to play wif those jap performance car on road. Owned an manual 350z, but jus able to follow these two cars on acceleration. 4wd jus no match in pickup.

ive owned lightly modded gti/sti/evo prior to mellowing down to a 6potter e90 and i can say that if the jdm driver is competent enough to drive a stickshift than the bimmer would definitely be left behind.. but like everyone here has mentioned.. these are two different type of cars.. no point comparing..

Actually I expected them to leave me in the dust but that never happened. Followed the cars until they lose their breath and then overtook them, usually at medium corners. For some reason the cars I encountered cannot seem to hold their lane at high speeds, so they have to slow down a bit at corners. Really impressed with the Msport performance after the first incident.

Maybe inexperienced drivers were driving the cars.

I reckon they chickened out against zuper zhul. :1: I've part-owned an STi 'C' before, and there's no way in hell any E90 can beat an STi over a set course. Those cars are rally-ready right out of the box, and are bloody uncomfortable but corner on magnetic rails. As Super(scooby)gripen says, a 320d would be long gone...well before they reach 140kmh.

Of course la on any kind of local race tracks , those evo's and sti's can beat the 320D easily. But on roads where you maintain speeds over 100 km/h consistently, they can't get away. And with the cars I encountered, they do struggle after the Jap speed cut level.

actually i tot the 320d runs out of steam. on the mex highway, met a 320d driving very spiritedly. but after the initial torque boost, he didn't seem to be moving. i tot he stopped playing, but he kept trying to play chicken when speeds dropped below 100kmh.

You can see why when you look at the power and torque curve, ramsing. Stupendous upslope early on, then flat as a board.

Usually, it will accelerate happily till about 230 km/h then it creeps to 240 and beyond. Even at moderately steep uphill places it can still accelerate at 200 km/h. But I feel the best part is still the suspension system, even at those speeds it's very serene in the cabin :)
