You can see why when you look at the power and torque curve, ramsing. Stupendous upslope early on, then flat as a board.

yup. which is why u need a bigger displacement :D

Usually, it will accelerate happily till about 230 km/h then it creeps to 240 and beyond. Even at moderately steep uphill places it can still accelerate at 200 km/h. But I feel the best part is still the suspension system, even at those speeds it's very serene in the cabin :)

joy of driving!!! :D :D

It doesn't matter if plateaus out-you are already at almost 250km/hr-we have the pics to prove it, don't we maniac bro? Hit those speeds during the Kluang run-you should join us someday Schwepps!

320d's power band is good from 40 - 210kmh. Gave my friend who drives a S15 an extremely hard time from KL to PG recently. Dare not try above 210kmh cos traffic was heavy, my nuts starting sweating and my fren's wife started complaining abt the bouncy ride from his harsh suspension.

Of course, RCBl...whatever you do, drive safe. It's a raging bull, our beloved 320d-have to be both restrained and treated with respect at the same time. Of course, others are jealous and want to put us down. But we know about our quality product. The world knows too.

Agree....pity that i don't have chance to test drive. The last stock was booked and can't be test drive when i visit the showroom in JB 3 days ago. New stock will only be here early April. Anyhow, the engine sound is acceptable.

Just got back from dinner with Roland Ooi, Quill PJ's director. Maniac bro also met us earlier for coffee at Quill.

Few things Roland answered for us forumers:

(4) Probably the big 3L diesels will NEVER make it to Malaysia because people don't want to pay that type of money for the big diesel cars which will cost more than their equivalent petrol versions (because the higher cost of producing a diesel engine) which already don't sell like hot cakes e.g. the 335i.

Don't we have the x5 3.0d and e60 530d brought in by BMW Msia? The difference between the 3.0d and 335d and 535d is only the number turbines. As it is the pricing between x5 3.0d and x5 35is is pretty close to one another. What is Roland talking about????!!!

We were asking about the 335d in particular, AL....I should have rephrased that statement...we were asking more about the bigger diesels for the 3 series.

Well, the price difference between the 335d and 335i over at the states is only a couple thousand dollars, surely price is a not an issue as claimed by Roland. Similarly the 320d (without I-Drive) and 320i is pretty closely priced as well, so is it really true a big diesel engine car really cost a lot more than it's petrol cousin as claimed by Mr Ooi?

We can only hope they do bring in the 335d....or the 325d,330d....you heard anything ALBundy bro?

Haven't heard anything bro but the 123d and 325d should have a strong following. Drove the 325d before, good alternative to the 335d:)

Doc, that was a really enjoyable run. I seem to recall that you were battling it out with a couple of 325's with your special edition oil burner, and making them really sweat!

During the chat with Roland, I believe I heard him say that it was his opinion that there would be resistance by BMW in bringing the bigger diesel engines to M'sia because of the still prevalent public misconception that diesels are dirty, noisy, non-luxury etc....and with the higher prices associated with the bigger cc cars, the M'sian consumer would not be willing to buy them. Based on the supply demand rule, these big oil burners are not going to be common here, unfortunately.

Am travelling at this time, and miss my daily 320d torque fix.

That would be more accurate. They're only interested in selling new cars, and the L6 diesels would be in the same price range as 335i petrols. If a person can afford that price range, it's unlikely that he would pick diesel. We enthusiasts are only a minute fraction of the real market.

The only way is if the Govt legislates for it, taxes fuel to high heaven and provides Euro4M fuel...like in Europe. Sadly, unlikely to happen.

Which is why I think the inline 6 325d will be a hit in the local market.

Somehow of all the diesel offerings, the inline 6 is the smoothest with minimal diesel chatter. :)

Certainly hope you're right! In-line 6s are inherently smoother and quieter because both primary and secondary vibrations are naturally cancelled out, something that doesn't happen even in V and boxer engines. The best diesels are L6s.

Thanky you Sean. Yes it is most informative but actually the Euro 2M diesel is more than adequate for us and there is not much to benefit in performance in terms of Euro 4 or 5 diesel-just cleaner emissions. Have you decided about your next car purchase -is it the 320d with iDrive or without iDrive, or the 323i/325i? or wait for the F30 2L 4 cylinder twinscroll turbopetrols(242 hp, 350nm Torque!)?- might even feature in the remaining e90 cars also.

I haven't make up my mind yet. Must test drive the 320d.

F30? Mostly enter 2012. I prefer the current 3 series's shape and looks.

I guess the difference of the tail lamp design and front bonnet lines are a plus for the current LCI 3 series :)

Yeah...taste is often a very personal thingy. Some poeple still swear by the E60 looks vs the F10. And with the depreciation seen, getting a good relatively new 530d with BMW Premium selection is a steal nowadays!
