520d. 520i only if you got ah mat drive you where you would really want the 4-zone air conditioning.

Really want to save last drop of fuel , thumb up! The detuned 320d with EfficiencyDynamic manual builtin auto start-stop can do 1600km per tank.

agreed. put it this way government if increase oil price petrol will be 1st ,diesel being the backbone of transportation for everyday item, cannot be increase suddenly if increase 10 cent , teh tarik increase 30cent.

but ecocide from 5.4 -> 4.3 no point , auto start stop is irritating . and it work 50% of the time as if the weather is too hot it will not work to ensure the air-cond is cold.

1. Why can the govt approve RON95 and RON97 but not Euro2M diesel plus Euro5 diesel?

2. I've tried auto start/stop before. It is weird, but if I had it I will leave it on. Note that it will only turn off the compressor, not the blower and this is only turned off typically during traffic lights, so maybe 30 seconds without a compressor isn't going to be a big deal IMO.

1. i think euro 4m we all happy no need 5

2. the traffic light if 30 second i think no big deal also but we live in "Malaysia" especially klang valley how long you stuck in traffic today ? mine was average bumper to bumper around 20 min if i go to kl from pj and interim stop around 10 ~ 20 time.
and the weather yesterday at puchong / usj was horrible we hit 37 at night it was 29. so aircond max again.

anyway i think the most fair one is we wait another 2 ~ 3 month and let the auto start/stop user review and give feedback.

yes, you tried before, but on our test car, when we stop/go and move with slow traffic, it's damn annoying, and once the car moves along, the ac tempreture just stays at the 25deg. C. compare the wear and tear of the starter and the cranking, burn more fuel and battery life is shortened. if BMW used a electric motor in between the gearbox/ engine like honda or toyota, then i dun mind.

yup, agree with you, if the weather is bad, then we all suffer, imagine telling our clients or friends on this function... they will laugh. even the SA mentioned it's not good in malaysia..

My test drive on the F10 was very smooth but short so didn't really get to try the start/stop function. But the starter is different from a normal starter, it's designed for significantly higher start/stops. The system is also not supposed to work when you're in stop and go traffic jams (based on speed eg. if you've been driving under 20km/h before this) or when the battery is low. I agree about the electric motor but that does complicate the design of the engine and transmission significantly.

Why not use our own brain power a bit more, turn it off when it's not ideal (ie. stop and go traffic) and turn it back on at other times? :D

Noneed eco mode lah.........ecomode is a death sentence! Drive it like you stole it (like maniac bro always says)!! And still get 800kms for a full tank! Damn goodlah the diesel cars! If you drive it like a grandmother does, you may get 850kms per full tank, but what a shame! Nobody's here to break any Guiness records for mileage per full tank, correct?

looking at myself in the mirror.

problem is when drive from quil entrance to the guard house it already stop engine. off it at guard post onwards the start/stop

If you drive a lot, get diesel. It's cheap and powerful. If you drive only in town, buy something else.

I choose 520d, just approved my loan. Ready stock, white / black interior and sophisto/oyster interior. Dun no which one to choose. Anybody can give advice.

I just collected my 520d (Alpine White, interior cinnamon brown) last week, took the car for a 'balik kampung' drive and drove about 800km++, and the fuel gauge shows it still have 1/4 of the tank (+/- 6.6l/100km), and I turn off the auto start/stop at all time, cannot take it when it turn off while stop at traffic light.

If you want less annoying dirt on your leather .. go for darker color. This apply to external, if you are not a lazy fellow, go for white but white is not easy to maintain especially the tar and mud that stick to the car.

i think it would be waste to have the auto/start mode on the 520d.... somemore this mode damn annoying...

IMHO This feature is mainly for European market where you get more tax benefits if your car produces lower emission + the cost of Diesel in Europe can still be considered costly. In Malaysia where the cost of Diesel is still subsidised by the government + no tax benefit to low emission vehicles, this function is quite redundant.

I'd go for diesel anytime. extreme torque(the car will fly like a rocket ship). extremely good FC (up to 1000km/tank).
