Albundy also feels mostly they are ok for Malaysia weather but some other forummers say be careful...

As long as the engine is bone stock and u don't track the car,I don't see any reasons to worry.Even with guys running Procede or JB3,I've not heard of any complaints or problems with the car.

U need to start thinking about engine cooling only when u start to push the engine mods to a higher level and if u plan to track the car.

Had a fortunate bump into a sporting E90 320d M-Sport today... Boy the car is very fast. It's a WTS plate so it may have the new engine version.
From toll booth i'd say the car accelerates very hard and easily keep up with my SMG M54B30 ride but come 4th gear will it start to taper off in terms of pace. 1st, 2nd,3rd I've played with an E90 325 M-Sport before and i must say the 320d easily match if not out-match the 325 in terms of pace.
Introduce a twisty road the 320d can make it very hard for the 325i. But come highways thats when the 325i will show it's muscle due to higher engine speed.
A chipped 320d makes an interesting and irresistible prospect.

To that WTS plate car ... well played sir :top: I certainly enjoyed the run and looking forward in bumping into you on the highway again :D

Hope this reply isn't too late...

Anyway, I got a few questions about the iDrive feature to see if this feature is really useful or not. From what I heard from SA, no movie playing capability, gps map not as updated (and feature not as good as my nuvi). Aside from being a music player and car diagnostic (tire pressure, oil levels), what are some other feature that you guys use often?

iDrive - highly recommended, plays DVD (I've tried it - video CDs work as well), GPS map is okay - perfect in Singapore but I'd say coverage in Malaysia is so so - 80% at most?, bluetooth itself is amazing with the iDrive, voice command really changes the entire experience - you literally talk to your car to select music, play CD, make phone calls, navigate, check tire pressure... list goes on... most menu functions on the iDrive can be accessed through voice command. The one reason I bought the 323i over the 320d was because of the iDrive.

Question on the 320d, I saw that the steering and HU got the phone button but my SA said no bluetooth capability.. is this true? Anybody fitted their 320d with bluetooth capability?

Yup - if you want a beemer with bluetooth - buy one that comes with bluetooth. In Malaysia, I don't believe BMW offers bluetooth retrofitting.

The WTS plate hasn;t got the uprated engine. If it had you would have been the reverse and inhaling his diesel fumes. Mine is a WTS and its not the latest engine. If I am not mistaken the new engine was release late September

The latest engine eats 325i for breakfast. Ha ha!!

I'll recommend 323i over 320d if u need bluetooth ask the SA if the option can be added..unless u go for the new F10 523i

how would the 320d has more advantage than a 325 on a twisty? hmmmm

With equivalent cars on slow roads wouldn't the torque make a much bigger difference?

Don't get so cocky bro lol even with the new diesel it's still 184hp vs 231hp :listen: Like i said it can keep up with me on the 1st 3 gears come 4th gears i was pulling away. On the highway my money is still on 218hp 325i.

Having said that the 320d is still very impressive in terms of torque and drivability.

On a twisty roads torque help you to power out from a corner faster ... As what mentioned by bro gameover.

only if u maintain the same gear when u enter the corner..otherwise lower gear with high revving engine rules.

hmm.. i wonder how well 320d is selling, any waiting period?

in retrospec, 323 n 325 is on waiting list.. to get pre-reg units r so much harder n much more expensive now... hmmm... ???

torque needs to be matched with the right gear ratio, glock is spot on.
a car w too much torque will never handle better compared to a perfectly set-up car, balance btwn hp/torque/handling.
dat's how a 325 can keep up w turbo monsters the likes of wrx, evo's, gti, etc in SIC

Define the word "keep up" pls :D

On a race track diesel have been proven to be able to keep up if not beat their petrol brethren, if you want proof kindly look at WTCC where the diesels have been winning races and even winning a championship for two consecutive years in the driver titles.

On twisty roads like ulu yam the 320d can give a very hard time to a 325i, ... and 390NM of torque the E9X chassis can certainly handle it if not BMW wouldn't even dream of releasing it to the public.

390nm torque for 320d peaked between 2500rpm n 3000 rpm...the torque dip down together with the hp at 4500rpm...how do you expect this car to compete with 325i when the peak hp is at 6500-7000 rpm...and the peak torque flatten from 2700rpm all the way to 6000 rpm....

when playing at twisty road...the 325 will happily stays at 2nd and 3rd gear consistanly singging his revs all the way to 7k rpm....while the 320d running out of breath keeping up since there is no power at 5k rpm any more.....

Spot on again Glock. ;)

Quotes from Jeremy Clarkson in THE video:
"...that's 80 more torques than this has, it's actually 50 more than a Ferrari 360."
"He's just got so much more power coming out of the corner, eventhough I've got all the torque."

I just dont like DIESEL. Wait, since DIESEL is so 'good' why dont Supercars and our M3 V8 run on DIESEL? Something is missing there rite? Or simply put, 'this is a cheaper way to buy the feel of powoah'?

Good point bro but there are times when you won't always be in the power band (i'm assuming 5k to 7k rpm) especially when you're braking and cornering where the the diesel will have more torque from 2500rpm all the way to 4500 rpm :D Plus it will shift to a higher gear once it hit 4k-5k rpm while you're still stuck at 3rd gear climbing to 7k. Hence that's why, in my opinion, on twisty roads the 320d can keep up easily with the 325i.

Like i said before the 320d can certainly make it very hard for a 325i in a twisty road but come highways or in higher gears i.e. 4th and 5th that's when a higher engine speed will win the day :D

I've had a friendly encounter with both cars and the 320d certainly left a good impression on me more than the 325i. With a remap or chipped a 177hp 320d can certainly be bump up to 215hp that is certainly very attractive.

Simply because it's not sexy :D

Also don't be surprise if bmw do release an ///M dieseled car in the future they did after all made an ///M version of X5 and X6 lol

For now, low revving diesel is not considered sporty enough for the M cars. But this may change later. They are already using turbos in the X5M and X6M and even Porsche is having a diesel now.
