Hi bros, dont racelah. at d end noone will win but police or workshop will make money hehe. For me I go for practicality. 320d suites me coz 90% I drive below120km. crusing hiway 150km. once a while ony tekan to 200 but not more than that. Hw fast on d hiway we can go??? n for how long???? In race tract 325 can win lah.,..mayb by a little. For me the fuel saving of 800pmth is big wellcome coz i m not that rich. can go 4 gd holiday end of yr hehe. in uk 320d is the best seller.....wonder why? price is the same as 325 over there.

Because the 320d is a very good car (as are all models of the E90) and make perfect economic sense in a country with a cost of fuel 4x ours.

Our oldest diesel, a 5 year old Rexton, has just crossed the million km mark. With the crazy mileages we chalk up and monthly fuel bills in the thousands, I would be crazy to pick petrol SUVs for our work. Diesel is without doubt performance with economy. But those are not the only factors in choosing a daily ride for oneself. We all choose based on what is important to us.

And yeah, racing on public roads is juvenile.

As for the performance, some of us have tested both the 325 and 320D to the max on the MEX highway. Well, it's a pretty close match all the way to twice the legal speed limit with both cars remained at similar gap.

So which was the quicker car despite the close match? Top end, rolling run and take off from 0-100? If its a close match, the iDrive bells and whistles should make the 325i a better choice right?

Depends on your budget also though. Price difference between 320D and 325 is more than 50K, so you need to decide whether the bells and whistles are worth that much to you...

If the performance difference, as driven a master like AlBundy, is marginal, then it really doesn't matter (not that it matters to me anyway) Chassis and performance are the same. Other factors then come into play and which is better for someone depends on what is important to him.

Price, driveability, top speed, economy, 4 cyl vs 6 cyl, turbo vs NA, diesel sound vs petrol sound, iDrive, and so many other factors. What's important to me are those I bolded.

Neither choice is 'stupid'. Any choice of a BMW is good. :top:

I agree, mikeyC. Ultimately..its the test drives...good write ups and awards help...but ultimately it's the test drive or test drives that will clinch the deal. No point writing till the cows come home. The 320d lovers will swear by their cars, so will the 323i and 325i owners. In a way, that's a good thing. Means we are united in disunity (SatuBMW)!!! Ha ha!!So..go for the test drives..and when you've bought your car, cherish the UDM ride!

Doc, I bought my 325 without a test drive ;p

Any BMW is a good choice indeed.

Correction its the affordable UDM in Malaysia!! Most of our UDM are either a Ferrari or a Lamborghini Gallardo but guess with the AP and such, those of us who can afford a 335 would have to be contented with it rather than the later. Guess you can call it the Malaysian UDM ha ha!! :ridinghorse::ridinghorse:

Right now I own 4 diesels in my company, and all in all we've gone through maybe 10-12 units. In my line of work, we go into rural and off-road situations, and only a tough, torquey diesel gives a sense of security in those situations. So I'm not a diesel-hater: I love diesels, but just not in my own sporty ride. But if the 6-potter bi-turbos arrive, I would certainly have a look.

Perhaps it's not diesel that we don't like, just the way it's been shouted that the 320d is better than other 3s. This used to be a forum that celebrates all BMW models.

Welcome back bro...

Hi people,

Just to share with you my experience. I own a 323i. I was given a 320d as a complimentary when I sent my 323 for fix.

If I had to choose, I'd still go with a 323i. It is way more comfortable and has more gadgets to play with.

- My 323 clocked about 15k km while the 320d clocked at 10k km. Both new cars.

- The 320d definitely is more powerful in pickup due to the turbo and nicer to play while the 323i is more smoother.

- Seats + Steering + Interior, the 323i wins hand down = Comfort. It was pretty awkward to sit in 320d, Btw I was already used to sitting in a 323i.

- Big difference in terms of noise, sitting in a 320d definitely lets me feel as if I am driving a boxer engine when I am revving, but when I am smooth driving, the noises can still be annoying. The 323i is alot quieter since it is NA, 6 pot, more nicer to drive in city and outstation.

I'm not here to say which one is better. All I can say is, both cars are different.

If you are the kind of person who enjoys to have more gadgets, I'd say 323i is the way to go. However, if you are more seriously into performance power, 320d is quite fun to have to drive.
U meant that
1. 320d seats are uncomfortable?
2. 320d is noisier?
3. steering harder to steer?

prior to getting the 323i, my last 3 rides were all turbo cars.. i tested the 320d but couldnt accept the diesel clatter especially when the whole point of changing car is to get smtg comfortable, quiet and nice to drive long distance. the sport suspension was just too harsh for my rear passengers which most of the time are my parents and inlaws.. so even the 325 was out of the question.

i ended up getting the 323i because of the non-sport suspension and the 6potter which was just :top: for long distance cruising.

when im driving alone, i just drive it like how i drive my previous sti,gti and evo. floor it and chase everything from supras to S4 when the road permits.

i dont deny the sport models handle better if u dont have rear passengers to think about but that doesnt mean the non-sport is a slouch.
having sport suspension and loads of torque is just one half of the equation.. how far ur willing to whack ur UDM is a totally different story.
some like bodykit, some like torque, some like idrive, some like FC, some like comfort
to each his own but u cant go wrong with either model.
sports suspension makes the ride more bumpy? so the rear passenger will be uncomfortable?

Seats are exactly the same. Noisier from outside. Inside no difference at all. Steering is exactly the same. The 320d gives a more punchier ride. More kick. More ommmph!
