one more thing if possible settle for high spec like m sport or what not. save you a lot in future.

Bro, just buy the bmw. No need to look at other cars. I bought my e39 almost 3 years ago and just 4 months ago bought another one , e46.
Never regretted my decision although wife initially objected, she 's now a convert. Drives the e46 like a F1 car, scare the hell out of me when sitting next to her!!!

Once you go BMW, jap cars just cannot cut it. ( My 2 year old honda accord costs 155k now delegated to eldest daughther, wifey no eye see already...ha ha ha )
Oh, forgot to mention the e39 is year 2000 and the e46 is year 2001.

mvaght87, so how bro? manage to test drive any?

hi everyone!! this is my first post in the forum,
just want to make new friends and seriously want to ask. what i need to check before buying this 2nd hand e46. ikut hati cannot tahan already.

please help me everyone.

thank you so much

thank you mr. seewai for the advice. like the car itself? what should i look on? for example, the common problem on the e46.
because im thinking like bringing the the workshop people and diagnose it.
but im not sure whether the car dealer allow to do so or not.

An honest seller would allow you to bring to workshop of your preference for complete diagnosis, physical and computer.
If the seller says no, I'd walk away with nothing to lose.
I never own an E46 but if you go dig through the forums on "E46 maintenance" or "E46 Part and Service Cost II", you could roughly find out what the common problems could be.
Anywayz, I'd fear rust (eg recon cars, UK spec) the most as they could infect many parts of the body & components.
Last year I drove a used car from Cheras Autocity to Kayu Ara for diagnosis, with the dealer at rear seat and wife beside me.
Good luck with hunt.

Now my itchy eyes are looking at E39. I've not checked out any UDMs yet because not enough money to play, what for go and kacau people, right... Am doing my reading into both cars and saving up to make the purchase.

Just tried an E39, and I was disappointed :( It's much too heavy and it's not agile. Will try an E46 if I can get my hands on one...

Bro, just buy the car lah....

Don't bother too much about going through all the threads on maintenance and other costs in the forum.
It will definitely scare the hell out of you.

I bought my e46 325i 2003 about 3 months ago WITHOUT reading a single thread.
And I must admit, should I have joined the forum and go through all the postings on the maintenance cost, I am pretty sure my balls will fall and I would have back off from buying a BMW. Its quite scary.

But, hey.. those bad experiences and high maintenance are not the general rule of owing a BMW.
If someone were to start a thread on the sheer joy and pleasure of driving a BMW, I am sure its going to be a very long thread with thousands of postings.

So, just buy the damn car laa...
Take the risk.
Enjoy the ride..

im all with you bro

just want to share...

never drive or having relatives driving an E46
my 1st xperience driving a BMW E46 is the exact car I want to buy!

now, I'm expecting my 2001 325i to be out this week or next week... weeehhuuu!

buy buy buy... ikikii

which e39 model did u drive bro? it has many engine varieties from 520i, 523i, 525i, 528i, 530i and what not. go check wikipedia and you will understand. it is indeed the e39 body is heavy but in terms of agility that very much depends on your engine performance. bad performance can come from low CC but the most important is the engine condition. used and old cars like e39 prone to have bad engine performance due to aging. nevertheless that can be tackled easily.

some say e39 is more for highway cruise and e46 for city drive.

It's the one with 2,200cc. Yea, I think you're right. Will try a E46 the first chance I get. So far I've driven an E36 and E39.
