Hey Jazz1011

FYI, in our recent TT, one of my friend decided to sell his E46 2001 converted to facelift and equipped with AC Schnitzer bodykits and 18" sports rim. He is upgrading to E60. Very damn sporty exterior with white color and black roof. No further modification required and this will save u approximately RM20k in accessories.

Acidburn, more infos on the ride pls. thanks

Wah! so garang, after my wife drives to work and people cucuk her on the road disturbing. I am looking for black OEM 16" wheels lifestyle model so can keep low profile.. :p Can also keep the preying eyes of hijacker away.. ;D

If u want low profile...lifestyle is the chosen one.
If u want style and elegance get the executive version.
The most sporty looks is the M-Sports with loads of accessories

I am just afraid later people will cucuk u to modify things and your lifestyle end up as a M-sport version also :) It will cost u then if use genuine accessories and parts

jazz,

i bought a jap recon as well. my mileage was 23k when i got it. (tampered perhaps??) it was said as 02 but when check via the net it is 01. but still happy with it thus far. if you look at my posting in the e46 maintenance thread, have spend around 4k plus to put it up to par as well as all the changes for wear and tear, to enjoy it as it is now.

cheerio.
u didnt get hard evidence and sue the dealer for selling u a 2001 car and stated it as 2002?

True.. that's why I get black. So what ever bumper or bodykit also from far cannot see. That will kill my urge to upgrade M-Sport bodykit. Perhaps a set of bling bling wheels is all she need, if I were to upgrade her look or make her look more sporty.

If I chance to get silver or white E46 Lifestyle, jia lat! Front rear bumper must go. :p

Don't poison me so early la. ;)

No need la bro. A friend helped me in the purchase. BTW there is a story behind the purchase.

Anyway, damn happy with the car what.......

If you don't mind the 'cucuk', be like me...... stock standard..... hehehehe

Hi Sushi & Jazz, sorry for the late reply as I don't log in regularly. The workshop is not at opposite EPF building, there is Jalan Gasing already if I'm not wrong. The one I mentioned is in PJ old town near the Chen Moh chinese primary school. If u come fr Assunta Hospital, round about turn 3 o'clock, go straight till u reach traffic light(the wet market is on your right) then go straight all the way until a dead end & turn left. Go straight & you will find the shop on your right hand side when you can see bimmers parking outside the road side. I don't know the name of the workshop & the outlook of the shop is not very impressive:wink: Look like "rumah atap" but many bimmers are there. Good luck!

The workshop name is Bimmer Auto Specialist which was recommended by other forumers before in another thread. Good Luck!

Hey jazz1011, sorry but please let me borrow your thread a bit (if you don't mind) :p
A couple of questions for the pros:

1. Actually how much is the road tax for a 325 and 328 a year? I heard BMW road tax are higher compared to Japanese make - not sure how true this is.

2. BMW 325 '01/02 non-facelifted is around RM110-125K these days. A conversion to facelift in some workshop costs around RM2-3K so getting that nice facelifted look shouldn't be much issues. My question is, what are the main differences of the 325 pre and after facelift? Unlike the 318, I believe they are using the same engine thus same power output?

1)
325 - RM900 per annum
328 - approx RM1,700 per annum
330 - RM2,190 per annum

2) check on some of the bmw sites... i think the facelift came with the revised steering rack which was sharper......

Hi aoch88,

No worries. Feel free to borrow my thread to ask your enquiries.

We're all here to learn & educate ourselves anyway.

Have a great day.

Cheers!

1. Road tax goes by engine capacity (diesel and petrol also differs), so no discrimination between BMW or Japs. 325 varies slightly as old M54 engine is 2494cc while new N52 (for latest E90 325) is 2497cc. But around RM890. 328 would cost roughly double that.

2. RM2-3K probably gets you the fender, bonnet and lights upgrade only. And might be some Taiwan or whatever upgrade that might not fit properly (so my mech tells me. Maybe someone who has done it can confirm?) I have always wondered about that pricing. As far as I know, to just upgrade your lights from standard orange to white for FL would cost around RM2,170 already (but this is BMW ori). Surely the headlights, fenders and bonnet would be much more expensive??? Anyway, to be complete, you would still need to modify your bumpers and wheels too. Lots of differences between pre and post FL. Adoption of DSC, eagle-eye design, suspension lowered, faster steering rack, 3-spoke steering wheel, electronic seats, PDC, new 5-spoke rim design.... and that are just those that I remember off-hand! That's just for the standard FL version. If you consider the Exec and Sports edition in 2004, then even bigger difference. But yes, engine is the same.

I think the 2-3k FL conversion advertised on the auto magazines I think has included trade in of your old ori. parts. By right, just changing to white lights from amber would set u back about RM2k lio and that's not inclusive of headlights.

FL components includes:

1. Bonnet.
2. Fender.
3. Kidney grille.
4. Headlights.
5. Fender lights.
6. Rear lights.
7. Bumpers (Front/rear) ? Brake duct ?
8. Workmanship.
9. Paint job.
10. Alloy rims (optional la) :D
11. The earlier FL version still using 4-spoke multifuntion steering la. So 3-spoke upgrade also optional la.

If want to go the 2005 Lifestyle, then have to add rain sensor, ESP, 2-electric seats, chrome external door lining, 3-spoke multifuntion steering w/ auto cruise... DAMN... this is the model I am looking for and its so rare and if can find, still asking for RM160k+.. :( Might as well top up RM20k to get E90!

Anybody can detail the price out? This will be interesting...

Hi all. I am new to this group. Have been thinking of buying a bimmer but do not want to get cheated by used car dealers. I was cheated once when buying a second hand car (not a bimmer though) where the odo was tampered from 120k++ down to 60k++. Discovered it from the service records. Returned back the car and loss about 1k++ (considered it as 1 monthly installment coz I used it for about a month). A friend suggested that I go to bmwclub website to get advice, info or even buy a car from there, and here I am.

I have been trying to read as much threads as time permits and found interesting infos and facts from thread initiated by our friend Jazz1011. Jazz, we are in the same boat. I am contemplating whether to get an E46 320 2.2 or an E46 325. What would be the recommendation of the pros?

I also have some questions which may sound rather naive, but I wouldnt know the answer to my anxiety until I ask and what better place to ask than this forum full of bimmers pros. I have never tasted double vanos before, does it work and feel like Vtec in Hondas? I also noticed the footer Astroboy uses in his postings, the thing about UDM and JDM. Hope somebody would be able to explain what those are.

Cheers!!

Looking for 2.2 or 2.5 E46 too but like many have said secondhand cars are not perfect worry free, once unlucky lots of $$$$ will goes to the car. Thats make me think of 118 or the new 120 coupe. A little more in price for new ride! 3 years warrenty too!

Someone mentioned about me?.. :D Been sneezing since 1 am this morning.. :D

Some of the technology or design that's commonly found in UDM.. some were used by JDM now and some which they will never use due to economic factor:

1. Window printed radio antenna (E36+)
2. 50/50 chassis weight distribution, battery in the boot, RWD, short overhang, big rear window etc.. (All models ?)
3. Bee hive shape rear spring that can almost fully depressed into a discus shape, and hey! its progressive too! (E36)
4. Slight lifting (6") door edge to avoid hitting road curb when door open (E46).
5. Cabin headlight adjuster (E36 +).
6. Active steering (Later models).
7. Corrective headlight beem (Later models).
8. Internal door handle release central lock (All models?).
9. Passenger/driver/boot master central lock (All models?).
10. Boot handle that can open boot rather than pulling wire under the seat. Now Myvi also can do this. (E36+)
11. Fuel cap that central lock (All models?).
12. Speed sensitive wiper speed, rain sensor.
13. Reset type rear defogger switch so no worries about forgetting to off, Waja also have this.. :D
14. Brake light that can tell how hard the driver is braking..
15. External door handle night illumination for the 1-series.
16. Parking lights.. most continental car has this.
17. When driving on "D", then accidentally push to "R" or "N" also won't spoil the gearbox.
18. "Life time" oil (Gear, differential, ATF, power steering).. :D
19. Try the Manual gearbox, 3rd gear can go 20kph also engine won't jerk.. :D
20. Some say can drive on 3 wheels.. :D
21. Double bonnet latch.
22. Independent rear drive axle shaft.
23. Electrical brake lining wear sensor on the pad.
24. RFT, tyre pressure indicator.. :D
25. Anti glare rear view mirror.
26. All the interior upholstery is carefully selected not only of its look, but the smell and safety too. They have odor specialist to smell the material to make sure it does not have any dozing effect. Now u know why driving BMW after long distance is still refreshing? and their interior has a unique smell compare to other car.
27. and a lot more that has yet to be discovered.... :D

Every piece of thing is functionally designed to make up the "Ultimate" package.

Owning a UDM is not cheap but look at it this way, u are actually taking part in the development of automotive technology that pioneer the industry. :D

Long live UDM!

And HAB! U have not introduce urself in the Newbies section le. So we are not suppose to talk to u until u do that.. :p

You got a point there drivenz@330. Ultimately, owning a new bimmer would be the best call, that is if you have the exttra $$$ at your disposal. Sadly to say, i dont...sob...sob..So thats why I am looking for a good 2nd hand 320i 2.2 or 325i, (havent decided which one to go for though, waiting some feedback from fellow members)

astroboy, thank you for the info, certainly informative. you sure know your stuff. Apologise for not introducing myself in the newbies section. Will do that shortly. Now I only need to find out where and how do i do that.........

Greetings Hab,

Welcome aboard. Glad to have you here.

Stick around bro. There's plenty to discover around here.

Cheers!
