Calling E30, E36, E34 and all 4 potters brothers and sisters out there.Need your view..Reason why I start this as I found an opportunity for super value mineral Oil (ori) RM 40 per 4 liter (Castrol GTX Extra 15-40 Mineral) Culculation is base on 4 potters engine, 6 potters will save even moreOption one1. At oridinary service centre, to change engine oil (Mineral) self purchase. 3000km per change but to replace oil filter at second oil change. At 6000km the Cost RM40 + RM40 + RM32 = RM10service chanrge = RM122 or 49km per RM1 while our engine get newer n fresher oil2. To maintain our normal schedule with semi syn engine oil at BMW Specialist Centre, change both oil and filter at every 5000km Cost RM92 + RM32 + RM50 service charge = RM174 or 28KM per RM13. Fully Syn Engine oil at 10,000km interval Cost RM160+RM32+RM50 service charge = RM242 or 41KM per RM1Should we go for normal mineral oil and have more frequent change or keep to fully syn for less change? Basic logic will say, cleaner oil more frequent is always better. Our mineral oil (Castrol 15-40 GTX) is design exceed the demand of our 4 potters.. (If I am wrong please share with me)

dunno much bout dis thing.. but my mech said better use semi syn.. ppl said redline is damn good, can feel da different after each change. nvr use though. redline got semi syn ar?

Oi.. geoff... you accountant ka? Hehehehehehe.........:D *joke joke lerrr*

I have used Redline and Q8 F1 before. Currently on Q8.
Both oil just as good.. but Redline tops, no doubt about it!

Cost is about RM300++ for both.

Benefits is priceless.... :D :D :D

Better pay a bit more... then suffer in the end.. i believe!

i rather use and engine oil which is not that popular ..etc ELF,nasa GD11 semi...

me rather than spending for every 5k ... i rather burn my wallet for every 45days just to keep my baby healthy. that is all i do ...change the engine oil and not depending on the millage much...45 days i may be clocking only 500km..but yet i change it ... Its just a personal experience..

Im sure everyone with a car has this problem, which and what oil to use!! Seriously im confused, as there are too many types in the market. I really cant tell the difference[except 4 the price$$$] whats inside or how is it gonna perform? I have tried many types in the past - cheap, mahal, branded, synthetic, etc..After all the experience the only difference i can feel is the engine smoothness/roughness. I would like to learn more on the numbers that are displayed on the btl ex: 15W40...Which grade will be suitable for my 328i engine?? full or semi synthetic?? BTW, I practice the option NO.2 above.... thx n cheers

I use Castrol Magnatec, my standard schedule is to change it at every 5000 km, but still dun mind if mileage goes up to 6000 km or 6500 km, but just make sure it won't exceed 7000 km.

Have been using Castrol Magnatec and changing around 7,000 km. This depends on condition of oil if it has blackened and feel of engine though. Can feel if it needs changing lo......Have gone through about 6 changes using CM and quite happy with it. Don't believe in using fully synthetic and not changing till 10,000. Prefer cheaper oil but more frequent changes...
Carrefore had sale several mths back on C. Mag at only RM49.90. What a steal....stocked up for 4 yrs oil change.....

hey rexmail,

sell to me 2 bottles lah..., dun keep that oil too long.., let me help you to finish them up..

I saw the Castrol Magnatec at Carrefore RM49.90!! Super cheap as retail is RM75. Only stock left now are the Castrol GTX 15-40 Mineral RM40 - Normal retail at RM55

Very keen to buy a few to keep as stock..

Guys...beware of imitation! Do make sure you buy the oil from a well known distributors/spare part shop...heard that Castrol is no. 1 on imitation list..simply because the sale was so good!!

I've been given to understand that long term utilisation of mineral oils will leave sludge residues which contribute to engine inefficiency but not so with fully synthetic oils - anybody kno if this is true ah?

Anyone know how to tell the difference between ori and imitation Castrol oils....would think that Carrefore would only sell only ori.....don't you think...

According to my otai mech, the imitation is darker in color, but it hard to rectify becos the can/bottle just look the same and most of the time we just pour it without much concern about the color...right? I'm not saying Carrefour sell an imitation goods...but hey, who knows?

Thx man...changing oil soon and will see if oil is darker...if so wan5201 get ready for lelong ok....haha

Any rational behind it? Just a little worried caused I just went from Semi to Fully!
