hellos bros (and ladies), so here's the situation...sometime this august/september, i will be flying to U of Manchester (10 mins from Old Trafford ) to further my studies and i can safely assume ill be there for at least 4 years assuming i dont get thrown out...i recently came to know about student APs and the opportunity it presents to young petrolheads like me with more testosterone than sense...ok enough with the cerita panjang, which of the following would YOU get with a 5k pound budget (more or less) to eventually bring home to our dear country :1. '01/'02 E39 530i Sport2. '00 E38 740i Sport3. E36 M3 (the 3.2L one)4. some other modelpersonally my fav UDM ever is the E39 followed by the E38, which explains why they are the top two choices...btw E39 M5 is about 8k pounds, i swear i will own one before i die :top:

Since u got this once in a lifetime opportunity just get any ///M car.

i thought the age of the car must not be more than 5 year old when using a student AP??? Plus by the time you finish your studies i reckon that the price will be much lower or cars that are newer in that price bracket. I agree with bro initial m, just get any ///m cars :D

The parts for M cars are approximately 10 times more expensive than normal BMW. Can tahan or not? Example -Lower arm for M3 costs RM1200, E39 lower arm RM130.

Before you decide on big cc cars to bring back, better take into consideration the crazy roadtax in Msia too.

I will go for last last very last batch of e39 530i M-Sport.

Not easy to maintenance ///M car lar woi..u may own the car but no moner to pay insurance, road tax and so on..what for?

not so sure how the entire student AP process works, as far as i know there is no restriction on the car's age...i hope

bring back first, let it sit, once i start working then only worry about road tax :top:

its going to be out of topic here why not get a BMW bike, it will stay in vakue over time better and lower roadtax cost. And it will even be relevant 15 years down the road.

yeah...ap car must be not less than 5 yers...must own minimum of 6months before transport it back...cannot change name for two yers...must provide proof of income on how student gain money to buy any particular car etc etc....
for 3000cc..road tax will be no more than 2k p.a...but still..go for ///M....

not more bro...i'm driving one ...well thats the new req from the authorities....from what i've been told....to avoid jualan student's ap....

Get a small car first.

Car might be cheap but the road tax, insurance and petrol are quite high as compare to here.

Maybe you can get cheaper insurance for student.

please bear in mind, the mechanic charge by the hour for the maintenance of the car. A lot people DIY because of the cost.

Also yearly inspection of MOT in order to certify that the car is road worthy.

Use a small car for first 3 years and change the "ideal" car at the last year to send it back to Malaysia.

You could always say your financed the car using a special zero-interest loan from FAMA bank :D

as said above, make sure you can afford to maintain an ///M car before you buy one.
if i were you, i would bring back a hot hatch as roadtax is much lower. tax is also much lower as it is exponential to the capacity of the car. have you considered a Cooper S or Golf GTI?

3L roadtax is around 2.2k
3.2L roadtax is 3k

my idea was to buy and simpan bro, not drive it at all till i bring it back...saves the hassle, plus insurance will be through the roof due to my age

The Cooper S is pretty much a BMW ;)
Take one for a test drive, you will be suprised.
It feels as fast if not faster than the M3 Evo thanks to its twinscroll turbo, its practically always on boost and handles like its on rails :top:
