For starters, the specs on my car (standard spec on Aegean Edition)

1) Aegean Blue paint (BMW Individual colour)
2) Ivory white softer leather interior (normal is either black or grey)
3) Black wood interior trim
4) Bluetooth telephone
5) Sat Nav
6) TV Tuner
7) Sports seats (manual not electric)
8) 18' M-parallel staggered
9) CD changer
10) Front and back parking sensor
11) Auto folding side mirrors
12) Xenon lights
13) 16:9 screen

plus others

I think the main difference is the exterior and interior colour, plus the wood trims which is special to the Aegean Edition. Toy included is a bit more than other 530i, although some other stuff has been omitted to balance the price when new (e.g the electric seats and electric steering adjustment). And on the registration document will say '530i Sport Aegean Edit A'

I was choosing between the Champagne and Aegean when I was looking for mine. Went for the Aegean in the end, back then the Champagne worths a lot more and out of my budget.

If you got the money of course you can find the steering brand new. Used ones do come up from time to time but they are arounf £300 upwards normally. I bought new one for about £620 including the slip ring and SMG kit.

When you look in the Autotrader dont just look in one or two places, just search for it nationally and go where there's a good one around. I was in Bristol and seriously I wouldnt mind getting one from Edinburgh if thats where its calling me. Luckily I didnt need to go that far when I got mine.

Those are my opinions only, in the end its your decision what you would want to buy. Some people are content with 525i's, but 530is are the same money over there and offers more toys. Consumption is roughly the same, only difference is the roadtax in Malaysia which is RM880 for the 525i versus RM2077 for the 530i.

Champagne is diesel and not petrol right? Power and fuel consumption is not so much different compared to Petrol right?

Steering wheel bought in US? I found one for USD 730 on ebay, looks similar-not sure it is. I do national search on autotrader. I'm also searching in uk beemer forums as the better and listed cheaper ones are always in the forums :D RM1.2k is a lot of money which will affect the choice. I can understand why some people go for the 525i. If I am not mistaken the E60 has a lighter kerb weight compared to the E39. 2000 cc road tax is about RM 310. which is quite nice as well. Where did you buy the steering from? Its quite nice to have some sort of control on auto gearbox

I read somewhere online someone says that dealership do not want to replace gear fluid or something-that is for life but people say its best change at 100k km. Anyone has more info on what this is?

Bro are you based in the UK?

If you would like a write up or review on the e39, BMWCAR magazine is one of the best out there.

Oct 2010 issue had a buying guide for the E39 540i.

& if not mistaken, the March 2010 issue was mainly dedicated to the 5 series, old and new.

There's a great write up of the Champagne & Aegean editions of the E39. Very informative.

Hope these help bro.

BTW, on that magazine, there are the E39 champange and Aegean cars (blue & black) there in front of each other. I'm currently talking to the owner of those cars. LOL. Small world. He is thinking that car in the distant future too. Small world we live in :D

Haywire, hope you don't mind if I show your car pics to him see if he got same modification :D

ooo, I just found out that there are 17" Parallel wheels. Are Parallel wheels in general hard to get in Malaysia or is it just the 18"?

This looks like a fine car, but manual:

aiyo he already said its march 2010 issue. you can buy backcopy online in the uk.

bro eggie where do you buy backcopy bmwcar in malaysia? i wanna buy that march 2010 for my collection

Hey Haywire bro,

Sorry for the late reply. Was away all weekend. Anyways, back issues normally I can get at Selvan's Mag store. So far the best & frequently restocked with latest issues which I've come across is the outlet at Sg Wang. But sometimes I'd also visit the one at Damansara Uptown.

But I believe there's this outlet [can't recall the name - Maybe Book Xcess] at Amcorp Mall, highest floor, which sells the back issues too. I think the March 2010 issue is pretty much out of stock. Will try to keep an eye out for it if I do visit those outlets again bro...

Haywire got it pretty much spot on, on the differences between the usual E39s and the Aegean editions. According to the article, the Aegean editions only came in Aegean blue paint, and there were only 150 units of them made. And all of them were the 530i, petrol version.

In all, there's 300 Champagne & Aegean E39s made. :top:

Haywire, lucky you! These editions came with all those optional specs [like folding mirrors, xenons, M Parallels etc] but costing at the same base price as a usual 530i... :D

I thought haywire mentioned that his car did not come with xenon's? Can confirm that? Xenons with auto dipping right? JPJ got anti-xenon rule now.

Yo bro, do get me one March 2010 edition if you see one, I'll pay you back when we meet. For now, can you scan the pages on the reviews of the Aegean and Champagne editions and email it to me at john_ate@yahoo.com please, thanks

BTW how much are they here? I can actually get backcopies posted to here for around £7 (RM35).

The car originally came with the facelift Xenons, but the previous owner changed it to pre-facelift Xenons. I changed it back to facelift Xenons and sold off the old one.

So it always had Xenons. So far no problem with JPJ and theyre plenty of Xenons running in the country without any problem.

Those are not M-parallel wheels on that 520i youre seeing. Thats 17" Style 66, M-parallel is Style 37 which is only in 18".

http://www.bmwtips.com/tipsntricks/wheels/BMWWheels.htm

Please get at least the 525i, not the 520i as some people have reported that the 2.2l engine is a bit lethargic with the heavy E39 body. 525i is ok, but 530i is the best balanced engine in the E39 range.

Most people on this forum would kill for a manual E39 but probably not on a 520i though.

kill for a manual...which one:p 525i or 530i. Manual so hard to get is it?

The wheels look awfully similar in the picture. Only until you gave me that link I can see the difference.

Usually Selvan's sells them for RM 15.90, but the one at Amcorp, RM 9.90. But I rarely have the time to head there, so more often than not, I'd settle for the visits to the Sg Wang outlet.

RM 35 inclusive of postage to deliver it here? Seems quite alright actually. Will scan them to you by tonight. :top:
