No champagne owners in Malaysia?

Not too sure. Judging from the fact that Champagne I & II editions are 530d versions, and coupled with the sheer rarity of E39 diesels here, I doubt there's even any here.

Says in the article you forwarded, Champagne are petrol and not diesel. Only one diesel Aegean

Ah wait. My mistake. Only Aegean had the diesel variant, whilst both Champagne I & II were only 530i petrol versions.

Thanks for bringing that to my attention bro.

So, has the article cleared your resolve on which model to aim for? Haywire's E39 is very awesome!

Well, this car is attractive despite its high mileage. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classif...ge/1/radius/1501/keywords/champagne?logcode=p

I have 2 more years, so hopefully better deals come. If I cannot find a nice beemer then, I'll get a manual 2.0/2.5L Mazda 6 (2007 new shape) sedan. The car depreciates a lot here. Also, get Rx-8 style interior and twin exhaust. The newest mazda 6 with its leaf or zoom-zoom styling is really appealing to me. Don't know why. Its based on the current Mondeo, but the mondeo is more expansive, and has poor interior.

That's quite a handsome example you've searched bro. Well, since it's still early days, why scout so early?

Anyhow, in two years' time, who knows just how the prices will fluctuate? Considering their limited numbers, the Champagne & Aegean editions are bound to appreciate someday. The Mazda 6 can be bought here btw, so perhaps you should consider getting yourself a really decent car that is unique and easily maintained here in Malaysia? :4:

That car is the chepeast champagne II on sale :D
I want to do a lot of research before buying a car. Thats why doing this now. Prices will fall, but then I am not sure if 2 years later this will be a viable solution. Who knows the gov decide to suddenly raise income tax for 2500cc and above, or maybe 2 years later people will say the E90 (vodka edition or something:p) the most desirable car.

Precisely why Mazda 6 can maintain and get is why I'm getting it. All the cars, I'm looking so far are cars which can be maintained. E39 was sold in Malaysia right? No use getting a vauxhall corsa or Mondeo hatchback-cannot find spare part there.

Just my two cents, not really against E90, but I'm a huge fan of the older Bimmers, those modern classics. The newer ones are of course more technogically advanced and may look cooler, but heck, I'm pretty much an old fashioned who adores youngtimers! :4:

E32, 34, 39, 38s... Anytime over an E90 man!

Cheapest Champagne edition may not necessarily be money well spent bro. Remember the saying, penny wise, pound foolish. :D

Yes, old one classic. Not sure the E38 and 32 are to my liking. A 5m car is difficult to park :D

Yes, that is why I'm not looking at that Champagne II. I've seen some good M sports edition under 80k km with almost all options on-aside for the 18" parallels. I'm limiting myself to the 2002/2003 E39 with the updated steering wheel (if I plan to do the same conversion as Haywire). If I don't then at least I'm not frustrated with an ugly wheel.

Cars here deteriorate fast. Wheels, undercarriage. The salt/grit placed on the road during winter easily corrode the car or the cobble stone roads. Every 3 months have to change tyre. That is why second hand cars are cheap. Cost of maintaining the cars makes it cheap. RX-8 is a prime example. People cannot afford the scheduled maintenance, then sell it cheap. Same year fiat panda is so more expansive than a RX-8.lol

Haha, to each their own bro. We all have our own preference. The E39 is a very good car, with balance between being a family car, and one for driving satisfaction. I don't see that with the equivalent W211 E Class though. :4:

Yea, the M-Sports versions are pretty decent. You're aiming for the 525i then? Of course, if the taxes here aren't so exorbitant, we would've loved getting the M5 or even the 540i for its sheer rarity here. What about the touring versions? :D

You're right in your observation. Cars in the UK depreciate really fast, and many are simply dirt cheap. Just buy & run, and hope can pass MOT. :4:

I actually have no idea what car yet :4: The other day I saw on autotrader, a MKV VW golf 1.4 FSI 2006 with all GTi trim, right down to the badge, rims, interior, stitching, seats. Onwer mentioned that he changed everything to be GTi'ish. Looks great but with good fuel economy. Only way to tell its a non GTi was to look at the engine.

No touring yet. Don't need that extra space. Also cost of hiring a lorry to ship your furniture is still cheap, and very rare places you can find a carboot sale in malaysia.

Another thing UK car famous for is half-cut cars. They can half cut anything here and people will not really know. Cannot bring half-cut back cause customs will just impound the car. buy cheap, running no. I have a friend who did not bother to ckaim back his car from the local council (after the council tarik the car for not paying parking ticket). He was slapped with a £200 fine. The actual fine was £10. Admin cost £190. The car was just £800 to start off with. He is now going to his 5th car. All other cars met premature death of some sort. Accident, repair cost more than the car, impounded etc. Just plain unlucky-but then he also ignored fines and does not have a UK license... I calculated that he lost about £3k from all that. In fact there are people/families giving up the car altogether. Only rent a car when they need to. Work, school commute public transport/walk/bike.

Ooh, Mark V Golf is a really good car to own. Quite a decent number of owners having the GTI here in Malaysia. That car is really quick! :top:

Haha. Having a touring will really stand out, although you're right about not really needing such large boot space here.

Ahh I see. Half-cut cars huh? Well, public transportation in the UK is pretty good, notwithstanding the strikes and what nots. Haha. Which part of UK are you at? I used to study at Bristol for a year and a half.

A new Golf GTi is more expansive here even though its a CBU unit in Malaysia. I did the maths, a new one in Malaysia is slightly cheaper with the same options on the car. £ weak now forcing car to be priced more. In fact, the price should be cheaper than one VW is currently selling. Their excuse of "not upsetting previous owners" is so lame and only shows that they want the higher profit generated from the exchange rates. My dream car is still VW Golf GTi with monza rims. Not the shadow 19" ones. Just 18". The 19" ride comfort is so uncomfortable. In-laws will not be happy with it. Also, my attacking style of driving during long journeys will be more pronounced with those rims :p

Half-cut is more comon than you think it is. Cars with category C or D damage cannot be brought back to Malaysia. These cars are usually the cheapest on autotrader. Some have said there are cat C or D and they still fix the exterior like new, but the frame structure has already been crushed some sort making it road unworthy.

Bristol. Nice warm place compared to Dundee. In fact, we still don't know how come that place is placed under "Rate B" of scholarship payouts, when Glasgow, Manchester are Rate C when its cheaper to stay in Bristol... Malaysians studying in Bristol under government scheme are so rich. No offence, but I've seen people showcasing their richness :D MOHE not doing proper maths there :p

Not true. Houses are expensive in Bristol. Renting a room (single students) in the city centre is around GBP350 upwards per month, while I have friends in Manchester and Cardiff paying GBP110 for a larger room.

If 3 bedroom house (PHD students normally) its about GBP700-850 (suburban). In the centre it exceeds GBP1000.

Ask bro Zahir in Dundee (if you know him) if you dont believe me. He moved from Bristol after completing his Masters to Dundee to continue his PHD solely for the reason thats its too expensive to stay in Bristol.

OOI OOI OOI.. off topic... car talk please... who cares about room rental in bristol.. LOL

Same with Dundee-no difference there :p Of course I know Zahir-he is still here. Dundee got about 20's postgrad students-so small. Later I ask him who was his friend got E39 champagne. I'm not sure if I mention "haywire" he will know.

Here is the Golf GTi makeover:

My take would be my dream ride E39 M5 stick-shifter, or alternatively E92 335CI stick-shifter.

Yup stick all the way.
