Single band only connect-able to single band? And so on?

yes mean vhf to vhf,uhf to uhf,vhf cannot connect to uhf cause different frequency.vhf frequency is 136-174 mhz & uhf is 400-480 mhz.that why i said dualband is worth to use cause you can use both frequency in 1 handy.

Novacell sellling Motorola RM199. Didn't check out the specs though.

for what i know motorola is mostly pre set frequency so you can't connect to uhf handy which most of the member using now.example motorola got 1-15 channel without showing the frequency & other is setting on 433.88 mhz how you gonna connect to them?

hi,I would suggest buying dualband .UHF can only pair up with UHF vice versa.

UHF= short distance/public channels/no license needed
VHF= quite far distance/amateur channels/license may needed

From my experience convoy about 20cars on highway UHF cant handle the distance.Unless you separate 5 cars into few groups and each group uses different frequency/channel then you can manage the group.

Theres alot of brand/type out there i would suggest you guys buy the "non preset" handy means you can key in your own frequency in order for long run usage.Not all handy have the same frequency and they will charge you everytime you want to change the frequency to match up with your buddies.

Having the same brand/model doesnt mean it will have the same frequency.In handy what you need to be able to chat with your buddies is the FREQUENCY.

u/vhf actually according to mcmc rules license is needed.no matter you are using u/vhf in handy the distance is about 3-5km without blocking unless you are using repeater.car set is more far even there is blocking cause handy transmit power is 5w & car set is 50w.

sorry to butt in..found this thread to be very insightful..!
if there's a group buy for a good & economo set of dualbands, i'd be interested to get a pair. thanks!

2nd one loc: Kajang, and the ads say 2 sets/pair - RM400...so I guess if that's the best price, 5 sets RM1000.

Which model, bro? I was googling to check specs and there are quite a few UHF ones. Rm200 seems to be a good price.
