Honestly, the range of 5 km that is claimed by Motorola is crap.

my company have used this model (more than 100 sets) at the site and
I am having problem communicating with my engineers when they
are about 300 meters away. of course, this is because of the blockage
of building etc etc..

Please take note that you have to pay an annual fee of RM50 for
the licence per year per walkie..

Consolation is this model have 16 channels that can be program
but you will have to share with other users cos you have to pay more
money if you want exclusive bandwidth. and normally you don't get
this bandwidth unless you own about 200 sets or more walkie talkie.

and yes, this model is robust. I have dropped it from 1 storey up and it
still work fine. Also dropped it in the water and it still work..

but the hand free headphone is crap... the VOX is useless when it come
to clarity and function. Prefer the PTT anytime..

Can do UAT any one of these nights after work...about 9 to 10pm.......sms me and we can have burgers while discussing the test method, do the walkie talkie testing and then have burgers again while discussing the test results.....

jarance...thanks for the heads up...i've used these models in the past as well...but im sure u know range is very relative as to where you are using it...in a plantation it can have quite a range but in the city area...kinda tough so ur right bout the range however our purpose for the walkies is for convoys..so i think its more than sufficient for our convoy usage

Line of sight only. 5 KM my ass

I have tried it a speeding car on the highway.. really bad reception if at all.

Those 200-300 RM ones that they sell at the malls cannot pakai one la.

You need the big ass black ones that need lesen one.... then can go 10 km
with the long antenna.

I've tried the GP328 fer my event. Basically can covers from KLCC Convention Centre to the Corus Hotel. NOT clear at all time but acceptable.
The cheaper Moto is not so clear. Its a pain in the ass to talk during an event. Can't hear anything even with headsets!
Kenwood not really that good. Maybe some models. When tested with Moto (same range) the audio seems not clear at all.
It's a good idea tho.
err.. Maybe can opt to rent the walkies everytime you guys doing a convoy? It's only about RM40 - RM70 fer a day.
No need to pay fer license etc.

Cheapo walkies are bad..those aztech in carrefour just sux...Motorola radios are good and they are absolutely robust...The GP328/GP338 suppose to be Motorola's all time best seller radios....If you plan to use it in areas where there's a lot of blockages, get the UHF range. Make sure its set at high power...am sure you can get good reception and clarity...but the best is still Mobile walkie talkies (those that you install in the car)...

my advise is dont buy that type, my brother bought it just for fun wanna chit chat with the girlfriend staying in the same block of condo....one 8th floor & another 19th floor....bad reception and even mentioned max 2 km....yes 2 km but with no object blocking....and won last long....that type is more for a mother with son or husband in the shopping complex paging each other......my aunt use to do that........
