i remember cleary a drive to kuala kelawang via hulu langat.. 1 e36M3, 1 e46M3, 1 e30USM3 and one soup up GTI, the e30 gave up, both the M's and GTI had neck to head runs... somemore driven by a grandad of 65years old...opps, forgot about the blue 335i also....
That time where got E46 M3???
The M3s were faster around corners but coming out of corners there is no way to overtake the Golf, as the power delivery comes in very early. Neck to neck and you are on the opposite side of the road. On Sepang is a different matter altogether. There is only so much power a pair of front wheels can handle.
Having said that, if one is looking for a hot hatch, the Golf is arguably the best buy in the market. Have tried the Mk6 a few times, and considering getting one soon and there is nothing much to complain about the car as a daily driving machine. Mk6 with LSD and Electronic Damper Control have more or less addressed the complaints in the previous edition.
If one is more into "spirited driving" then can consider the Renault or if you got deeper wallet the 135i
