Even though, the cars are pretty similar (assuming same wheel diameter, no bodykit and etc) the results could be varied.

Recently BMW Msia did a drive using the 320D, with the target of achieving 1000km utilising only a single tank. Not every participant achieved the target.

The biggest variable when it comes to fuel consumption is the right foot. Even if one were to convoy, the driving style do make a difference as well.

For example, I like to accelerate when driving on a downhill descent and use the momentum generated to climb the subsequent hill. This is more efficient than to accelerate up the hill, and then cruised downhill.

You can try this tip when on the Maju Expressway to Putrajaya :)

So were u in the test?

Yah! I love to tail gate fast coaches, FC improve tremendously! For that matter, all cars that tail gate others will benefit from the slip stream to achieve amazing FC!! Aircond temperature don't set too cold is also one of the trick. Tyre pressure put a little harder.. and many more! Rule of thumb is DON'T BRAKE TOO HARD! and DON'T ACCELERATE TOO FAST!

Recently my mechanic found out that my aircond gas was "overfilled" at 24 psi, and promptly reduced it to 20psi which he said was the "correct" pressure. And my FC has improved as well, based on weekly average. :)

Schwepps,
You are not entirely wrong. If one doesnt feel the difference, then why waste the 25cents/liter :)

No AB, I must be wrong. Learn something new everyday! Today I learned that gasoline detonation can be at ultrasonic frequencies that humans can't hear. Soon they'll come out with combustion engines that only dogs can hear. I also learned that the govt raised the price of ULG95 to RM1.80 when all along I thought the current APM cost based on crude oil prices is RM2.10.

My scientific and logical beliefs have all gone out the window.

PETALING JAYA: The newly introduced RON95 fuel is now selling at RM1.80five sen higher than its previous price.

RON97 has been upgraded as a premium product and its price has increased from RM1.80 to RM2.05.

Domestic Trade, Co-operative and Consu-merism Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the RON new prices were decided based on the current automatic pricing mechanism.

“Although the price is now 5 sen higher, the Government subsidising 33.81 sen per litre (of RON95) which is equivalent to RM304mil monthly,” he told reporters after the launch of Primax 95 by Petronas here yesterday.

Currently, the Government is subsidising RON97 for 42.72 sen per litre.

The cost for RON95 went up 102% from US$40.75 (RM143.79) per barrel to US$82.30 (RM290.40) in December last year and in August respectively.

“If there are any changes in global prices, we will revise our prices accordingly. It is up to the Economic Council to decide.

RON95 also adheres to the EURO2M specification, which is less polluting,” said Ismail Sabri, adding that consumers would get quality petroleum products at subsidised prices.

Schwepps,

Without subsidy and with Crude Oil Prices hovering around USD80/barrel (it is USD 75.6 as of today), it should be around RM2.13/liter based on the news report. No?

Cheers

Only if you know what the APM is, and how gas prices are calculated. If you don't, and want to believe whatever you want to believe, it's an outright lie! ;)

Well who believes what its written in the Newspaper nowadays! LOL...

These are the 7 components for APM...cost of product, alpha, operational cost, oil companies' margin, station dealers' margin, sales tax and subsidies. So, we have all been hoodwinked by some propaganda???:eek:

Perhaps, the government should allow a free float mechanism.

Actually it's a pretty fair system because the components don't change. We are on a tempered free float already. Eg. APM price for ULG97 is actually about 10 sen higher than the current pump price of RM2.05, but the govt doesn't want prices to change all the time. VPower went up recently as you know.

We are one of the few countries left in the world that subsidises, rather than taxes, fuel. IMO, all subsidies should be removed, and we bite the bullet NOW. Instead we're going to spend time, money and resources to come up with a 2-tier subsidy system by 1st May, which is going to be open to abuse. :stupid:

A turbocharged engine is more efficient than a normally aspirated engine, which is why the future is fewer cylinders, smaller capacity and turbocharging to SAVE depleting fossil fuels.

agreed but not wen u constantly boost the beast, the fuel gauge drops faster than a penny hits the ground ahaha

It's true my friend. The max I have been up to is 14.8l/100km. And also what Schwepps said is absolutely right. So.... you better change your e90 325i to a e92 335i  hahaha...

bro u r not going justice to yr N54, boost more boost more...
procede it then boost higher or alternatively u can try e juicebox from burger motorsports.
if i sell my 325 now, i lugi like hell oh so enjoy first lo, then if got moo can consider later.
but 335 :top: no doubt

You're absolutely right. If you're on boost all the time, your FC will shoot through the roof. Especially for Japs with their high boost. However, the European principle is to boost for fuel efficiency.

Geez...I just said the BN govt is making a stupid decision with this two-tier subsidy proposal. :stupid:

I'm loyal to fact and logic.

Oh that's interesting. What was the average? I presume it was an entirely highway drive? Once I drove a Freelander TD4 (2.0L diesel) at 90km/h on the NSE (KL-Penang) during the initial 1000km run-in period, and I think I was on track to get close to 1000km/tank, as KL-Penang (350km) only took about 1/3 of the tank.

For my older bimmer running with the M52 engine which has a 10.2 to 1, compression ratio I couldn't feel any difference between RON 95 and 97. On the S52, the difference could be felt easily more so when it comes to acceleration which is more urgent and immediate.

Then again, I do only use RON 95 most of the time, unless some of these young punks (one driving 335) ask me for a spirited drive :embarassed:

Using Shell 95 on my car, no problems whatsoever, still smooth. As for power, cant really tell for sure as the ///M is recommended to use RON95 to 98. I do feel the car is little less torquey via the butt dyno.

Do a blind test. Ask your wife, girlfriend, boyfriend, to fill the car with either 95 or 97, and not tell you what went in. Then see if you can tell. :D

My missy can tell the difference.. between RON97 and RON95.. :D in a 4-pot E90..

^ hahaha ... true even my wifey too can tell a difference between between 95 and 97. On higher rpm my car feels lethargic when on ron 95, also for gas mileage i get better results on 97 than 95 (Caltex 97 works best for my car, BHP 2nd :D ) ...

I overheard someone saying there are only 3 things which are correct and accurate in bolehland's newspapers:

1. The date
2. The page numbering
3. The 4D / Toto numbers

Everything else is err.... err.........

My FC test round has gone back to VPower, and the first tankful shows 11.8 l/100km which works out to 28 sen/km. My ULG97 figs were 14.1 l/100km or 29 sen/km. Might as well pump VPower if I want to use RON97. ;)
