Situation:In a friend's car. Car broke down and cannot drive. Need tow truck. Friend's insurance doesn't include tow truck.Question:Can I use my insurance tow truck service on my friend's car when I am present to sign the callout? Expecting this is a free callout...Am I just dreaming? Or is there a flexibility in this?

Not a good idea if they can find ways to verify... Best bet is get friend to join AAM, free breakdown towing within major cities and their suburbs.

Now even AAM has tightened the regulation because of such abuses, every member can register up to two cars for free, and the car number will be entered into their computer database. Each car also will be given a barcode sticker which will be scanned to ensure that the car is a registered car in their database.

Thanks mate for the tips.

The insurance companies these days are surprisingly helpful. They are willing to arrange for the tow truck even though the car is not insured with them. They even call back to check if the price is reasonable and if we are satisfied with the service...

AAM's package sounds good! Will recommend it ;)

Was informed that quite a lot of insurance companies now have ties up with tow truck company. Some package include free tow service (excluding parking and toll for the tow man) for breakdown either caused by accident or self breakdown. Others just offer free tow service when the breakdown is caused by accident. As for me, will be looking for insurance company which has complete tie up with tow truck company which offer free service when your car breakdown. You never know when your UDM may decides to die on you one day since there are so many eletrocnic sensors around. Just one sensor konk out and the whole car can't move. Such free tow service can save significant bucks.
