Thanks herbert for the explaination. When i heard of overhaul, my cold sweat come as it sound expensive. What is the indicate average cost of overhaul ? my car engine is M54B22.

Any recommended place? it would be great if you could PM me some recommended place as i will be in KL this friday till monday.

Top over hauling usually takes about 2 to 3 days and price estimate about RM3k to 4k. Optimum Motorworks at Kayu Ara is an experienced BMW specialist workshop frequent by many members here. Call the boss Jason Foo (012) 308-1891 and he will be able to give you the correct estimate after testing your car.

bro my suggestions are:

1. get the ccv checked out
2. then valve oil seals

if either does not solve your prob, highest possibility its the piston rings.

You are using semi or full synth? normally after 8k for rempit kakis, need a bit (half litre) of top up.

Hebert,

My car only 520i cannot rempit at all. only can drive slow slow. btw, i'm using Pennzoil 5W50 fully syn.

Supercharge or put in stroker kit (3.0) for your 520i and then can rempit..

Most white smoke cases is due to valve seals:

N42 valve seals, item 4 below.

This is a wear and tear seal just like any other oil seal. Piston ring not so easy to wear unless you use sub standard engine oil over prolong oil change interval and suffered from over heating before.

My old Perdana I4 16 valves suffered from 4L top up every 5k km traveled. So I literally no need to replace engine oil.. also made me sweat when hearing need to overhaul suspected piston ring. Wife prevented me from fixing because 12 years old car, so pestering me to replace car. Selling the Perdana also difficult because smoking ma, until had to fix too. End up getting my foreman to replace just the valve seal to see how.. the seal cost me RM3 each and there 16 seals for all the 16 valves. Seals plus labor cost was RM200 and to my surprise, it fixed the smoking and oil loss problem.. still we sold the off because found the now beautiful E90.. :4:

White smokes due to Valve Seals?

When I starts my car early in the morning (E90 N52B25 I6), i see some white smoke coming out from the exhaust. But only in the morning or when i start the start the car for the 1st time in the day. Does this mean my valve seal need replacing?

Is it normal for some white smoke (lil' bit) coming out from the exhaust during 1st start-up of the day?

If YES, i better get it check..

Any experience or advise from fellow forummers?

My E60 experienced this white smoke prob abt one year ago. Mechanic told me likely to be either valve seals or oil separator, the former requiring a few days and of course cost much more. So started out with replacing the separator. Kaotim within 2 hours and so far no more white smoke todate.

Thanks... will bring in my E90 for the check soon

Dude,

Dont waste money. Its quite normal. White smoke due to condensation. However, if the white smoke is persistent, ie whenever you are driving, then you would have a bigger problem. Cheers!

Been reading about how Crankcase Ventilation Valve (CVV) or oil separator blockage can kill the engine.. scary..

If the white smoke is from the burnt engine oil, then you should suffer dropping engine oil level. If it's obvious, then get it inspected. Both the N52 and N46 has CVV.

my car having the same problem...losing oil and water consistanly..my mech told me to do top overhaul...so that cause me a huge headache...is there any economic way of solving this problem...mine is M43TUB19 year 1999, clok 250k already...the symptom are: oil and water lost, minyak around head gasket, no white smoke...

Water loss and oil loss is separate case, hence don't mix the 2. No white smoke means piston rings and valve seals are all okay. If water goes into engine oil, your engine oil will turn color like teh tarik. If engine oil goes into coolant, you will notice oil stain in your coolant expansion tank. Have you check both?!

BMW uses a lot of plastic components in it's cooling system and vulnerable to leak due to breakage of these components. Make sure your premix 50/50 coolant with water for your top up because any such premix coolant leak will cause a white powdery trail, very easy to trace.

Normally I wouldn't be too bothered about head gasket leak until it gets "serious".

Depend on the engine lar. My M54 engine dont consume oil.

My M54B25 also ok on engine oil consumption woh....could it be the engine is running at higher than normal temperature (due to faulty cooling system) thus leading to this high engine oil consumption? just my humble opinion.

how to know if it is already serious???oil leak on the floor r?...ive never use coolant when topup water...aiyo...is it the cause why my engine consistanly loosing water???:slug:need to topup avery 1 week now...also some time i notice like burning smeel in the cabin...is it because engine oil burning...im having a lot of problem since acquired my UDM....in a slow pace to restore it due to fnding problem

Top up how much water every week? 100ml? 1L? My E90 top up 100ml every month due to a leak behind the engine.. Part Item 17. I bought the part for RM48, but SC wanted to charge me RM500 for the job. So I drag on a bit first la.. since the cap won't pecah and fly off la.. It'll will be slow leak only. Sometime 2 weeks also no water level drop. This cap is available in N42 and N46 but not in M43.

If you don't use coolant, any leak will still leave a trail of rust. Very easy to spot too.

M43 cooling hose is not too complicated, shouldn't be difficult to trace.

I have seen a case item 5, top connector pecah, it's plastic.

very informative...mine loosing about 750ml every week..is it normal?

That's bad.. should have stain somewhere, get a foreman to check your u.

1. Radiator
2. Water pump
3. Thermostat
4. Hoses, seals and connectors
5. Expansion tank

If don't notice from the front, hoist up the car and check the back of the engine.
