Yesterday morning my dad drove the e39 from condo carpark. He say the gear have problem engaging, the car have no power, having problem climbing slopes of carpark, and all the gb lights on the panel P,N,D,R is ON. After I got back from work, I drove the car but everything is normal again. Anyone had any similar experience before? Thanks.

Brought it to mech today. He say nothing wrong. Maybe my dad is getting old :p
Aiyah, don't say like that lah. I am sure your dad had more driving experience than you.

Anyway why don't you try driving it on a cold morning and with little warming up. If it is still slipping maybe your gearbox need a some of attention.

The other thing to do is to check if you have sufficient transmission oil and check the condition of the oil.

Haha, I'm sure my dad knows what he experienced. He was defending it when I joke with him getting old today.
I have checked the transmission oil condition and level last week, it was still very clean. And I have also inspected the parking floor, no sign of leaking.
Let's see if it happens again. Hope it's not the gearbox man......

My mech open the screw to Drain out some gear oil, he say it's still look very clean. And then he top up the gear oil again. Is this the right way?

yes tat's the correct way but type of ATF did he use to top up?

Oh, I didn't notice the brand of the oil, I remember it's blue bottle. He is a BMW specialist so I assume he knows what he is doing. But previous owner may have used another type of oil? Hmm... That means a possible mix of different brand or specs. Should I drain out the whole thing again?

When you don't have the previous service records, it is a good practice to replace

1. ATF oil & filter
2. Engine lubricant oil & filter
3. Power steering oil & reservior cum filter
4. Brake fluid
5. Radiator - flush & replace water coolant

it's happening to me now...probably I'll visit naidu tomorrow for ATF change

hi, lithium2, you may check you torque sensor. high possible is torque sensor not working well and will cost you about RM380 to replace it.

Since all lights are on is it possible for transmission control unit having the problem which located at left side under the air cond filter box ?

The error message on the cockpit is "Transmission Fail PRDN". It happened again when I start the car yesterday morning. I switched off the engine and restart again, everything back to normal.

Went to my mech, his scanner shows transmission sensor & crank sensor error. He deleted the errors and ask me to come back in a week time. He say he only believes in the scanner message 50%, since the car is still driving ok at the moment.

Hi goh, where is this torque sensor located? Is it near the gearbox?

Hi tweiboon, I notice yesterday, all the lights is actually always ON, but the position of your gear will be BOLD. So yesterday when it happened, there are no BOLD letters. So I suspect the sensor fail to detect which gear was engaged at that moment.

If only the sensor then still a small problem. Then let us know what is the price of the transmission sensor and crank sensor
