Help! Gearbox/Automatic Trasmission problem...

But if i remember correctly the time i changed the clutch they changed the transmission fluid aswell. And the shop told me must use the BMW oil or the gearbox will kaput again. I sent to this guy in Kayu Ara @ Classics. Quite a reliable chap.

The ZF gearbox takes Esso (LT-71141) ATF fluid. Using any other fluid is just asking for trouble....

Yeah man, need to spare some cash for the rainy days..your car should be smooth sailing now i suppose..
 
All these GB problems, are there any symptoms that will tell you GB is going to die on you. Will not be a lot of fun if you are driving outstation and the GB just give-up on you in the middle of nowhere.

Can all those who have experienced GB issues share their stories..... thanks
 
change to manual trans loh tak habis cerita with auto problem meh !

Like any mechanical component in your car, the gearbox will start giving signs if it's about to throw a fit. From my own experience, my ZF auto gave these signs before the torque converter gave up:

- jerky upshifts, especially under part throttle;
- clunky downshifts;
- increased fuel consumption (slipping lock-up clutch);
- funny "burning" smells after long drives; and
- "clunking" noises when engaging drive.
