Steering Lock - E90

Nothing wrong with the mechanical steering lock mechanism, it slides open but its the switch it fail to trigger giving a false impression that the steering remain lock, thus u get the OBC warning and "ENGINE START" will not response after the warning comes up. So you have to start your engine fast before the false alarm illuminated.

The steering lock warning popped up AGAIN yesterday afternoon since my last part change in April 2009.

Warning sign refused to go after 2-3 shut-down-restart attempts. I swear the FxxK and couldn't care much and started driving with bloody heavy steering....and the sign was gone seconds later when steering feedback was back to normal.

Damn...BMW! I wonder if AB ever change my steering column in the first place!

Maybe its the power steering pump going this time around. In theory the steering malfunction lock would have prevented you from steering at all and prevent you from even starting your car. This one sounds like the PS pump which have also kaput on some E90's before.

F**king the Fxx whatever model la...to hell with them! Getting fed up with whatever comes from Germany! This is my first and my last German car.
I think its more practical to change to a new Jap make every new model rather than shell out a premium price for these stupid car with problems like ...steering column..interior chipping, top up oil...and worst of all the snoobish AB/BMW aftersales attitude...its like begging them to fix my car! damn no pride at all owning car in these price bracket.

Bro, you seems to be very upset & angry over your issues that keep recurring on your ride.
Cool bro....I have encountered more teething & big issues than you leh....I managed to solve them one at a time. Now enjoying my ride (keeping my fingers crossed, hopefully no more frequent visits to SC).

I do understand how spaceman feel. It is really sad and fed up especially when you are paying so much for a car and yet the problems are much more than cars that are of much lower price. I feel you spaceman.

Hezry my car is the workshop because of that...mine is not due to steering column....but the CAS control module....u can read my post.....under Electical steering malfunction....

well i just tried to start my car again few minutes ago and the steering lock signal is gone. hmmm...

im not sure its a glitch or the steering column gonna kong soon.

would like to share the same misery.
amber / yellow / red sign steering wheel lock defective. had to tow the car to auto deutsche or previously called bmworld in pandan. they did a software reset, still havent update it since its raya soon.
the error sign disappear.
hope it will not occur again within this week.
after raya will buy parts and claim from the dealer ( ally azran near risda ampang )
they promise to bear the cost since the problem arises before i purchased the car.
hope it will not brake down again whilst going to raya open house.

thank you for all of ur responses. it has been very informative where i can make wise decisions.

Finally! After a week my E60 in the workshop due to this festive season, i managed to get my car back.

yeayyy... luckily it was not the steering column. only changed the magnetic key sensor...cost me around RM 1,500 .
