If proton got this kind of problem sure everybody hantam.
But BMW has this problem also on E90, then I only to say 1 thing.
BMW sucks:stupid:

The LCI has comfort access. And to enable comfort access, the external door handles has a touch sensor. If someone knock your door and damage the handle grab sensor, that alone is RM1.8k, per handle.. :p

So that is the actuator, internal looks simple, the motor can be easily source for Pasar Road, kns! RM900 for this? Sure bor?!

Those stupid nylon sprocket can easily break when get brittle through time..

replaced mine at euro tech auto:top:, sunway damansara tech park. Total cost part (actuator) + labour = RM 630

BMW sucks at making small non-essential parts that makes the car that lil'bit difficult to live with.. I think it's a German thing, maybe they want to introduce 'character' into their cars(with the likes of Alfa and Fiat in mind). That's why they use little plastic sprockets and fulcrums that gets brittle with age..haha! Just sayin' ya know??

No lar... Poor BMW! Most actuator movements in such applications are of plastics such as nylon and delrin. The advantages over metal sprockets and worm gears are many: light-weight, shock-proof, wear resistant, heat resistant, corrosion-proof, noiseless, and require less force to operate. A car with completely metal moving parts would be clanging all over the place as it plods along. Pound for pound, these plastics are stronger than brass or steel.

RM900 for this?

My son's Sony PS2 controller make in Japan, has more components that that, summore with microprocessor, also 2 motors for vibrations.. can buy many with RM900.. :p :stupid:

U have a point there...

BUT why does this affect our e90s more than any other models? I've owned an e30,e36,e46 and an e60..none of them had this problem.Perhaps its in the design? Less robust/reliable but more economical to manufacture?

Probably bad manufacturing batch, which is why so many units have the same problems, but not ALL units. Components like these are made by OEMs who must supply more than one make of car to be viable. In fact, what IS made by BMW in a BMW plant other than the chassis, body panels and engine? Practically everything else is OEM from all over the world.

Sony Playstation comparison...try slamming it on a carpeted floor the way we slam our car doors thousands of times a year and see how long it lasts.

.. u mean is the slamming of door that kill the actuator? You can be right! Next time whoever slam my door, I slam their head! :damnmate:

I would say older BMW are more robust. E30 & E36 is good. E46 ok la.
Now that I'm goin to sell my E46 headache to buy what car. Maybe its time to move to other marque. BMW lock sucks as proton:stupid:

Sorry, but I found that my E36 was falling apart all over the place when I had it in the early 90s. IMO my E90 is much more solid and well-built, even better than our family Merc.

No need to sorry bro. I dont own E90 yet so I dont know. But I used to own 10 yrs old E36 & used it daily & doin sales some more. I used hard Bilstein B8 monotube & no squeaking sound accept sound system SQ. My E46 door lock problem due to lousy design of GM5 module that coz relay faulty. But after few generation this door lock problem is unacceptable lar. Like I said.

Kalau Proton habis suda kena hentam. Tapi ini BMW door lock problem??

My experience with my e36 M3 was a good one.The car was as solid as a rock.. not a single problem with it.

To be fair though,my e90 is pretty solid as well.Only the door lock issue puts a little 'black spot' on the car's record. All in all,I love my e90 to death!

mine was the same situation too...

Central locking was faulty at 1st:
1. Driver lock can't open, can only open with the key from outside. Power window functioning, no losses of Radio setting.
2. all 3 other door can't lock, but can still do it manually.
3. did not test fuel cap as I was still having full tank.

went for Ingress immediately and was lucky to catch the last shift at 12:45 noon on a Saturday. SA changed the fuse and good to go in less than 5 mins.

1 week later, rear door lock jammed, can lock manually but can't open, went for AB Sg. Besi and was told to leave the car there for few days without any diagnostic, so went to Ingress and still managed to catch the last shift at 12:30 noon on a Saturday too. This time it's a faulty door lock, so gotta make appointment to change the faulty rear lock. but at least they didn't ask me to leave my car for few days so that they can check out what's the problem.....

note to self: Not getting another BM from AB anymore.

Is ur car an LCI? If so,the front doorlock module costs only rm350+ only. For non-LCI tho,its gonna cost u rm700+.
Agreed tho that Ingress is waaayyy better than AB.
