I guess you are one of the lucky people. I have the same problem when I got the E46 last year. Did some search and found that it quite common worldwide. Managed to get some tips on how to solve it myself. Have not encounter it for a year now after cleaning the connectors and ensuring that it locked properly.

Got the car back.
Asked what was changed...front locks? how come fronts n not entire lock system?

on thur night, i used the e90 key to enter (driver side). all other doors were lock. fuel cap also lock...

anyway didnt ask somemore la otherwise IA may change their mind to charge me!!!!

from reading all the posts here, am I to understand that if lock jam :

1. cannot come out from inside unless thru window.
2. cannot use physical key for doors other than driver side.
3. cannot open boot unless using physical key.

wah lau eh...

For my case
1. only driver side door can open. all other doors FREEZE
2. Yes
3. Can open boot the usual way..press the key
4. Fuel cap FREEZE.

The ZKE module controls power window, central lock, boot release and sun roof. On worst case scenario, all freezes!! Must use physical key. From inside, only driver's door can open.

There's a write up here: http://www.bmwgm5.com/ [Interestingly, our club was mentioned in the website!! ]

Back to the question, if ZKE module complete failure:

1. Only driver's door can open from the inside, and use physical key from outside.

2. Yes. Other doors no key hole and lock won't release from inside.

3. Yes.

In Rachel's case. The ZKE didn't fail. Only her driver's door central lock fail. That's why she can still use her remote to open her boot.

Apart from the "problematic" ZKE module, the E90 driver's door lock is a another common problem. It first burn fuse. SC will replace with a bigger rating fuse, failing which, they will replace the lock. My fuse was replaced. So far so good. Keeping my finger crossed. I wonder if there's any E90 owner here doesn't experience central lock problem before?!

Touch wood, so far I haven't had this, or any other problem. In fact, my present unit is the most reliable car I've ever owned, including the family Merc. :burnout:

Hie astroboy.

Just here 2 correct ur small misunderstanding, not 2 "tunjuk pandai". FYI, in an E90, there is no ZKE. ZKE is actually a body control unit, which is installed in e39 n e46(if im not mistaken). in E90, central locking is being controlled by JBE (Junction Box Electronic) + CAS, while power windows, interrior lights, boot opening are being controlled by the FRM (Footwell Module). Just a valuable info to share with u n others.

Happy motoring guys :burnout:

Wow! valuable insight.. that's what Sun Tzu called the "Throw Bricks to attract Jade" technique. Now I know more about our car. So the designer finally do away with the death trap ZKE module which is made by GE.

I will read more about the JBE and FRM.. :D

Thanks!

ooooooooo lock n windows have no relation at all. Hmmmm
after i picked up my car... a few days later i started to hear some squeaky sound when the window is turn up or down.

tht is because ur window strip (the groove which guides ur window going up n down) is either dry or dirty. try cleaning it with a compressed air or get the SC guys to clean it n lubricate it. n FYI, please do not use oil/greese base materials to lubricate it as it will make the window strip to "kembang" and makes it brittle after streaks of hot n cold weather. silicon works best on this case. please do ask rishi (if im not mistaken is ur fave SA at IA) to solve this. im sure enough guys like rishi knows how to tackle this case well. u might also ask him to lubricate all 4 windows as well

ahhahahaha i dont have a choice. the SA is tag to us...

thanks for the tip. see u monday afternoon ..

Not to worry. Mine also old e46. Let not disturb other people thread.

I have started a previous thread on E46 Door Lock before when I have the same problem.

You can check it out here. clit below.

Went thru the 15Amp to 20Amp fuse change.. it was okay for a while.

Then a few days ago I started to hear faint clicking noises coming from both the driver's and rear pax's doors. Not long after the rear pax's door lock stopped responding to the plipper/keyfob.
Sent the car to Ingress for a normal service package, asked Rishi to have a look at the door locks..Lo and behold, the door lock control unit for the driver and rear pax's doors was pronounced faulty thus requires replacing.Price for each? Approx rm700 each....

Ah well.....

Is it here... maybe not.. :(
