Rusted seat ....????

I am starting to think that BMW is going the way of cost-cutting to heighten their profit margin. This morning only I realized (wtf!) there is rust in my car seat (look at the attached pics). I'm not sure if this is similar case as reported by other forum members. One thing for sure, now, BMW is ranked lower than Honda in my list.

Just sent in my car for inspection this morning and this was part of the warranty claim being put forward. This was after my email to BMW malaysia and BMW AG.

If it is of any consolation to you, we all have that same problem. I just got those seats changed a couple of days ago. After this, we are all now waiting for the upgraded steering rack to be released by BMW AG.

But is the steering rack replacement a confirm fix / recall ?
How many in this forum have had their sa confirm the steering rack will be changed
I complained about the vibration but they want to charge me $180 for balancing $180 just for balancing alone!!!

It is one thing to accept imperfect cars or manufacturing defects
It is another thing to deal with unprofessional staff representing the brand thru the dealer networks

Unprofessional inconsistencies resulting in multiple visits
Complete disrespect of my time

I am holding on to all the unresolved issues until I have time to list down in one nice love note to bmw

It will be my third complaint to them

No more bmw after this

What most of us are experiencing at the moment (which numerous Service Technicians had identified and also confirmed) relates to the "thud" or "clunk" sound emanating specifically from the right-hand side of the wheel together with some slight steering judder (akin to the feel of a worn lower-arm bushing), and this problem has been traced to the designed defect of the steering rack. As the result, I was told that BMW is aware of the issue and is currently working on a revised version of the steering rack but apparently it is not ready yet...or so I was told. Anyway, those that have complained about this problem have had their respective SC submitted the parts requisition to BMW AG and are currently awaiting for the said product to be shipped out.

Your "vibration" problem might be different from the above, that's why your SC talked about doing Balancing. In any case, you shouldn't be made to pay for the Balancing, unless they suspect the fault is caused by you, i.e. your wheel hit a curb while driving or something.

Balancing is cheap elsewhere, why not get it done on your own first? For me, all my new cars will go for full balancing and alignment job when I take them home. It's a one off and worth doing it on your own. In your case no point arguing over the 180 and then being in a stalemate. If you balance it then it's still a problem, then let BMW balance it with the 180 charge. When the vibration is still there, then they are in trouble. If you balance on your own then it's all good, so be it la.

Agreed. I would do balancing at my friend's tyre workshop in PJ for RM20!

My wheels were balanced by bmw and it's still the same.

The rusted seat frames waiting for more than a month parts Still not arrived

Rear seat squeak 2 visits still not resolved

Front brakes soprano singing 3 visits still not resolved

Yeah no big deal thanks bmw

The problem is, most ppl are complaining to the dealers and not to the right channel.

Anyone who is unsatisfied with their car should write to BMW AG and BMW Malaysia directly. Make them known of the issues. I have done my part but I can't make myself heard if I am doing it just by myself.

Here are the emails:
BMW AG: customer.service@bmw.com
BMW Malaysia:
Chandra.Gandhi@bmw.com.my (Aftersales Customer Relationship Manager)
johnnie.kan@bmw.com.my (Aftersales Area Manager)

Bro, the right channel is go through your respective dealers because eventually they will be the ones that will do the seat replacement.

If the dealers can't sort it out perhaps then send an email to BMW Malaysia. But otherwise, if everyone sends them emails they will also just revert back to the dealers. That's how it works :)

Cheers

Just go around in circles la. The JOY of ownership!

Just collected my new car. Same. I also kena as expected. Just want to know anyone success claimed a new chair or touch up and paint back?

good to hear you received your new ride. Just made a claim for the the rusty seats. They'll replace the seat frame definitely but due to stock coming in from germany may have to wait a while.

I am going to ask the service centre to check on my front seats during my visit for routine service. I've got my steering rack replaced once. However, there is still a slight 'thud' sound coming from the same spot. Some of you guys mentioned that BMW is revising their design. I thought my car is already replaced with a revised part. Can anyone clarify about the revised steering rack design? Are there multiple updates to the steering rack?

TheTinkerer,
As far as I know (or have been informed by numerous different sources) the revised version of the steering rack to rectify the "thud" sound has not been released by BMW AG. I am not sure why your SC mentioned they have replaced a revised part for you.

I checked in with my SA and the rusty seat issue has been acknowledge and BMW may do a recall and replacement soon. Not sure about the thud sound issue from front right corner. It seems there are various causes, not necessary steering rack, but could possibly be shocks/springs/bushing issue.

sent my car on thursday for warranty claim of rusted seat among others.. they told me i could collect it next day.. nobody called nobody said anything on friday..
this saturday morning i called and the SA in charge was out so i was attended by another person telling me i'll get the rusted parts replaced once it arrives..

before noon i went to ingress to collect my car.. the SA that attended to me on thursday said my problem settled.. apparently they removed the rusted parts and resprayed it..

i just took my car and left coz i was already late for a wedding reception.. no service manager today so im saving my profanities for monday..

Bro c-square, your seat frame is changed literally for a new one, or they just removed the rust and respray like what happened to lude?

They should be REPLACING it, not respraying.
