Trust is two-ways with my longtime suppliers. They did a touchup job for me when I was overseas and sent my car to my house while I was still away. When I came back, I just happily continued driving until they called two months later and said could I come and settle the bill!

There are supposed to be 3rd gen RFTs coming out soon which is supposed to give a more comfortable ride. But Bridgestone and others have been talking about them since 2009 and they're not shipping yet.

The Michelins are already 3rd gen. Aren't the Bridgestones 3rd gen by now? I would think they are, no?

Hi guys, quick query - anyone know a good tire shop around the KL/D'sara area who's had experience patching RFTs from the inside (not the external plug)? I may have sprung a leak and will get it checked out to see if the tires can survive a patch. Heard Lim Tayar (KL would be either Jln Ipoh / Ampang / Melawati) can handle, but would appreciate any recommendations. Tx

Mixed reports of Lim Tayar in TTDI. Some people say good. Some people say they will rip you off. I went to them a few weeks ago, and I got them to patch up my rear 19" RFT for RM37. At first they said too close to sidewall, cannot patch and quoted me RM2890 for the Bridgestone RE050A RFT. Almost fainted. I told the guy, just patch it la. So they patched it and it seems ok.

I have recently test drove 323i, 325i M sport & 320d.
The 323 & 325 is on conti, 320d is on BS.
I felt the RE050 has higher roll resistance, when the slow down, I can hear very obvious sound. However, the rest of the 2 cars didn't give me that kind of sound at all. I believe it's the tyre. With the comments from you guys, it's pretty much confirmed that it's due to tyre technology.

18" RE050s cost around RM1,900. Would 19"-ers cost 1K more? I'm one of those who never go to them BTW.

they sure run that place like a 'if in doubt, change to new tires' kinda place
I was pretty much pressured into changing to new tires just because i wanted to balance my RFTs a bit more before changing to new ones. I just insisted that they do the balancing. Took them ages to do that. I think they were going 'slomo' on me. hehe.

Here's what happened, for sharing. Started the car in the morn, and the "dingdong" of death came up on the OBC, indicating the flat tire. Could not see which tire had flattened visually. Drove it a few kms to the nearest station and pumped up the tires to find the victim, and it was the left rear, which had dropped to about 160kpas. Pumped it up again and drove to work. Got to Lim Tayar Melawati and they took the wheel off after checking pressure (lost 30kpas during the day), and here's what they found.

Cost was rm40 to patch internally, and another rm7 for balancing. So far no issues. What I was told at the shop was they are more than happy to try to patch the tires, if relatively new, ie within 1.5years from prod. Apparently RFTs harden up over time/use, and they are afraid they may compromise the tire integrity when taking it off the rim.

Got a quick quote on RE050 RFTs from them for the staggered 17"s.
225/45/17 - rm1250
255/40/17 - rm1900

worth keeping a tyre pressure gauge to check which tyre is flat. quite difficult to determine if its a small puncture and pressure dropped between 30 - 50%.

you are the man, gameover. thanks in advance. pretty sure you'll find the latest gen tires, and definitely a bigger variety of makes to choose from down south...though they'd have to be quite a bit cheaper to overcome the exchange rate & travel costs from the klang valley.

whatever price differential u get over there is somewhat cancelled out when u do factor in the exchange rate. Plus, include ur petrol, wear and tear, time spent, etc etc... and i think its not worth it.

Some people say it's almost half the price so if I'm really going to save RM3k on tires then it's worth a weekend trip. Since I'm going anyway I might as well check how true the rumor is and get some prices

If I weren't going then I'd call them up. Since I'm going anyway I'll just go around, ask questions, nego a bit.

Was told by Lim Tayar that Continental tires went up in Nov.
a non-rft 225/45/R17 - CsC3 is now RM9++, used to be RM8++

Did not dare to ask the price of an RFT. Used to be around RM1,200/piece

My car currently using non-rft's ..cheers
