If you can get Michelin PS3 for RM510, why bother?!

Cheaper in Malaysia...for once. :top:

Michelin refers to them as Zero Pressure, self-supporting tires. Speed rating Y is the highest available at 300kmh. Don't ask me how they perform yet, I only drove them the whole 3km home. :) I can say though that these 3rd gen RFTs appear to have a softer ride.

bro schwepps,

mich PS2 are RFTs issit? I dont think so right? what 3rd gen RFTs tyres ru referring to? I had used bridgestone RFTs for a month in my new car (Aug 2009) when it was delivered, but then decided to change it to non-RFTs & used Toyo T1R instead & bought the mobility kit as an insurance. But the fear still runs through me should i get a flat & the mibility kit can't repair the puncture, then really die la, in the middle of some God-forsaken trunk road...

so pls share with me what tyres ru using.

cheers.

Yes they're RFT. Actually, the correct generic term is SST - Self-Supporting Tire. Michelin has 2 versions of the Pilot Sport: PS2 and PS2 ZP, and as I mentioned, ZP stands for Zero Pressure. I'll add to my post:

1. 225/40/ZR18 88Y - Michelin PS2 ZP, RM1,100
2. 255/35/ZR18 88Y - Michelin PS2 ZP, RM1,400
Made in France, April 2010

Tire manufacturers use various names for their SSTs. From Tirerack.com: Bridgestone RFT (Run Flat Tire), Dunlop DSST (Dunlop Self-Supporting Technology) and ROF (Run On Flat), Firestone RFT (Run Flat Tire), Goodyear EMT (Extended Mobility Technology) and ROF (Run On Flat), Kumho XRP, Michelin ZP (Zero Pressure), Pirelli RFT (Run Flat Technology) and Yokohama ZPS (Zero Pressure System).

3rd gen because this is the 3rd gen of SSTs, discounting the now defunct Michelin PAX system. Like you, I don't like the thought of having a flat without a spare in the boot, and from my own experience, they're safer in a total air loss situation while rolling on a highway.

Good price, chief. Do you know if they have 17"s, and at what approx cost?

Sorry, no idea mate. Do check around for prices as TOMS' is not necessarily the cheapest. I go to them because of the service I get. ;)

RM1.1k for Michelin PS2 run flat 18". OMG!! Still remember those days where even the Mini's 16" RFT is sold at over RM1.4k Last check for my CSC2 RFT months ago was RM1.7k for 17"..

Been noticing Singapore registered car buying tyres in Malaysia.. a good sign for us! Kudos to Najib's administration.. :p cabutzz....

Well, Bridgestone and Pirelli SSTs are still in the RM1,700/2,100 region. Dunno why Michelins are so cheap. At first I thought they were from Thailand and thus enjoyed AFTA duty rates. But they're marked "Made in France" on the inside, and quite fresh too: 1710 manufacture, meaning April 2010. :top:

On the office run today, I drove over the ridges and potholes that I know so well, and I can vouch that the 3Gen Michelin PS2 ZPs are WAY more comfy than the 2Gen Bridgestone RE050s I had before. Obviously I haven't driven hard yet, but I can already tell that the great handling of my ride is even greater now! Very happy with these tires! :dancing:

Nice one Schwepps.. I getting Michelin ZP's also next week....simply because its the cheapest RFt I can find..lol..
peace no war bro..

my ride currently fitted with conti SP2
ride kinda harsh and not really that stable . already done alightment and balancing.
would my ride be better if i swap for michelin ps2

My comparison is with my former Bridgestone RE050s so I can't guarantee it, but I'm quite sure PS2 ZPs would be much better all round.

These are very good pricing. I presume these are not "submarine" stocks right? You get to fill in the Michelin Warranty Card and what not...right?

Of course, plus Michellin giveaway. These are not the best prices in town mind you, my shop charges about RM50-100 more per tire. But I've been going to them since my first cars and they've become good friends. Do first, pay later - once I forgot to pay them and it was only 2 months later that they called me. Heh heh! :p

There are supposed to be 3rd gen RFTs coming out soon which is supposed to give a more comfortable ride. But Bridgestone and others have been talking about them since 2009 and they're not shipping yet.

Ok thanks. Great to hear the good rapport you have with them and vice versa. These special moments rarely happens now a days, especially in the city. But its good to know there are still trustworthy shoppwners/business owners out there. :)
